The long period vacation is finally over and after practically two months the students are getting back to their online classes.

In Mexico, a great percentage of the population were able to receive the dosis during this summer, and now the government is starting to vaccinate young people (18 to 30 year old people). This means that the schools are finally going to attempt a parcial reopening of classrooms. At least in the capital, (Mexico city) some elementary schools and middle schools are now functioning as normal, but with a reduced number of students. The scholar period August-December starts in one week, therefore I will contact teachers and try to promote the exchange program.

After an online meeting with my TUFS colleagues, we were able to share valuable information about the activities and general practice we apply with our students. I notice that I should focus a little bit more on their communicative skills by encouraging them to discuss about their interests and experiences. At the end the quality from the audios we created the first time for the dubbing group resulted to be not good enough so we are adapting them once again. I am hoping to get finished the video during the next two weeks. As for the reading group, we have been using Tadoku and NHK free readings lately. It is indeed much more complex to adapt the readings for the basic level students, but once you get into it, one can notice that this online newspaper has a wide list of other resources to use with the students.
 I am now getting used to the official application to see if I can apply it with the students soon. Last week, I commented the students that Tadoku and its staff are offering a chatting group at the beginning of this month, I hope that my students can adapt to the difference in time between Japan and Mexico to attend the zoom conference.

The scholar period is about to start and I am excited to get in touch with new learners.

Summer is getting more rainy than usual, but it is actually a relief after a large and severe drought. The State of Guanajuato and the surrounding areas are finally green and beautiful as they should be. However, there is still more tourists that come from other countries. I was able to be once more at the most crowded part of Guanajuato which is the central garden,
 I could not even walk because of the amount of people. Some weeks ago, the entire country reported very few cases of corona and some schools are starting to plan the official returning to class on august. Actually, not all the schools plan to return to class after vacation, because they have to make sure that all the staff gets the vaccine including most part of the young students. According to some official announcements, the students can make it a personal decision and choose between taking online classes or returning to class. This means that we could have an entire year of online activities until 2022.

The reading group is still receiving students during this vacation period that will last two months. Thanks to the material I received from the office, I have been able to offer a wide list of adapted material for basic level students. These last three weeks we were looking at those readings which difficulty is a little bit higher than the rest of material we saw last semester.
 I personally love this free material because it contains most of the basic vocabulary presented in a very simple way. After dealing with the video auditor program, I presented a short video on the facebook dubbing group, and I am hoping that the video is in good condition to be uploaded to the YouTube platform because this is my very first attempt to create a video using only digital sources. I will be sharing these videos according to the recommendations of the students and my own personal choice.

Soon, most of people who are more than 40 years old will receive the vaccine.
 The population is little by little returning to their normal activities. Even some elementary level schools of Mexico City ( the capital of the country) are starting to attend to normal clases again in some areas.
 This means that the government is trying to find out if students of other levels can come back to classrooms at the end of the next year period. It is important to mention that in our university, most of teachers have been receiving the dosis in the last weeks. Therefore, we might be able to see online classes being transmitted from the regular classroom space.
 In my case, I am still expecting to get the vaccine right after the vacation period is over. According to some information given by the university, the administrative staff would return to the offices before anyone else. This would mean that it is possible that I will returning to the University a little sooner than the students.

As for the online reading group, I am planning to continue with the weekly reunion during vacation. Here in Mexico there is practically a two month long vacation period which starts the second week on June. I am hoping to start with the next level of difficulty with the students and try out more complex material. I hope that the students will stick around even during vacation, because it is a large period without studying or applying their knowledge of the language. I remember myself as a student coming back to class after the summer and it was complicated to recall the structures and understand readings as well. For this summer, I think that the students should keep in touch with the language as much as possible. I will have to contact the university in order to promote these summer reunions and focus on the student needs. As for the dubbing group I am still trying to edit a couple of videos to publish on youtube. Video edition was quite more complicated than I expected.

Here in Mexico, there is a period of two week vacation at the end of March and the start of April. As many other holidays in Mexico, it has religious origins. Since I can remember, Mexicans use this time to go the beach or swim somewhere close to their hometowns. I used to play outside my house when I was little by throwing water balloons to my friends, but nowadays the country is experimenting some issues with the drought.

The lockdown appears to be less serious than ever, and the government is starting to suggest the return of basic level students to the classrooms.
In the case of the University of Guanajuato, some say that this school year and all its activities will remain online until most of the population gets the vaccine. Honestly, I am very surprised that the virus is not causing trouble for now. Guanajuato city is now full of tourist and night activities. One can see that restaurants are now in their 80% of capacity, which I consider not very convenient. We should all try to stay home and avoid crowded places like at the beginning of the lockdown. I can notice the current situation with India, which is very chaotic due to the amount of people at traditional celebrations. I think we should all realize that is not time for relaxing yet, and that there is still a lot of effort we should go through to contain the virus.

The reading group is now gaining more participants, and it is a pleasure for me to keep using this amazing material. There is a reading designed by a Mexican university on the Tadoku page. I would really like to get involved in the creating of this sort of didactic material. since most of the students I am working with are beginner level students, some of the them usually ask about more ways to memorize katakana and hiragana. I always try to give them some recommendations of the techniques I used when I was studying. I am glad that the students are still interested in learning more vocabulary apart from their regular classes. Last week, we started with a vertical format Japanese reading. This format is still used in a wide list of media such as newspapers, magazines and manga. It is a good thing that this material we are using has all sorts of reading formats.

Apparently, the corona lockdown is now becoming less serious for most of the Mexican states. One can notice how people is gradually returning to bars and restaurants all over the city. Guanajuato is now returning to its original state, filled with tourist making photos and crowded streets, but the absence of the students which are the main soul of the place is still evident. By taking into account that less than 5% of the population obtained the vaccine, this semester will still be online.

For this month, I continued with the lecture reunion and I presented some other readings from the didactic material provided by the office. I could notice that most of the participants are still studying the most basic levels of the program of Japanese language (first and second semester).
This is why I intended to adapt the level of the readings so the students can have a more appropriate experience. The free content of tadoku is perfect for all Japanese students and teachers to follow. At the moment I am using the readings of level zero with the students. After reading loudly two complete stories, I give them a list of vocabulary that is related to the story and then I intent to solve their doubts. The last few minutes I try to solve some other questions from the students. Some of them have trouble with the grammar and other problems that are common among Spanish speakers. During this pandemic, the students cannot interact the way the used to before this situation, so I understand how these students might encounter issues with using the Japanese language in a more natural context. When I was teaching, we used to have a short and simple free talk times and many other speaking-communicative activities. I will continue to dedicate more time to solve their problems during the meetings.

For this month I planned to get a short reunion with the new students and share my new “dokkai” group. I wanted to provide students with a wide list of readings and activities to reinforce their language skills. I am very sure that the most complicated ability for a Japanese student to master is reading. Learners must invest a very considerable amount of time to master not only the comprehension of kanji but to make sense of the ideas of the text. I will also send an invitation to all of basic level students to practice with very simple hiragana texts by using the material recommended by TUFS some time ago. There are indeed numerous readings supported by images and audios that make this experience very much immersive. I thought that it was very important to provide readings for all the students so, I will approach these readings depending on the needs of every semester. Therefore, I will start every month with very simple lectures and increase the level of difficulty for the following weeks. At the end, the students will be able to join this class every Saturday at 7.00 pm I also plan to help students with their questions about grammar and general expressions as well. I am willing to change the schedule for the students depending on their convenience.

The dubbing workshop is finally gaining more participants, and we are still discussing about what videos we are going to upload to internet. As I explained to the new members, the point of this group is only to make them use the language and try to have fun with it. I want to mix all the Japanese students from the university and high school for this workshop, because we need as more people engaged as possible.

The situation in Mexico is now getting restored little by little thanks to the lockdown. Despite the fact that Mexico is the third most affected country in the world people are being positive about it. At the beginning of the pandemic, people avoided talking about the virus and infected people, but now the topic has become more explicit through time.

The real problem with Mexico is that there is a noticeable number of diabetes and high blood pressure cases, therefore the population is more vulnerable to all this and all sorts of deseases related with bacteria and virus.

At the end, after a practically two month vacation the new scholar period has began with the same restrictions and safety measures.

For this month, apart from the creation of new didactic material for the Japanese area, I decided to contact the students and share the general information of TUFS. I created a short presentation to talk about the different academic degrees and programs one can apply for.

I made sure to share some links and useful recommendations when applying for an scholarship. I was surprised by finding so many students attending the meeting. From what I understood by reading their questions, there are not only students from humanistic areas who are interested in knowing more about studying abroad. The students of all levels including the high school levels should be informed as well, therefore I will program another meeting next week to make sure the message is widely spread.

The coordinators of TUFS have been receiving a plenty amount of new didactic webpages to help the students with their learning process.

I noticed that it is usual for Japanese learners to put more emphasis on the mastering of structures and syntax rather that on their reading skills.

However, learners might encounter big problems when reading texts written by Japanese native speakers. The plan for this month is to use this new material and program more meetings on zoom to focus on their reading skills and vocabulary.

In Mexico, the winter season started with very low temperatures. Some of my foreign colleagues usually tell me that is even colder here in Mexico, because we do not have any heaters or other any other similar devices. People usually use sweaters and lots of blankets at night for this season, there are no many options.

The lockdown in Mexico is becoming more strict than ever before due to the noticeable increase of cases in almost all the country. In this state, the policemen are making sure that all people on the streets are wearing a mask, and depending on the state there are even fines and service denial. The university is still waiting for the vaccine, but the rumors point that the university will remain close for one more semester. This means that the academic activities could be reopened after the summer vacation period which ends in August, which is a shame because I definitely miss to be surrounded by students. The vaccines just arrived some weeks ago, but it seems to be a very slow process until most population gets it. According to the current administration, elder people and medical staff should have the priority to get the vaccine as soon as possible.

Due to the vacation period, there is still very few opportunity to reach the students with the new project. We started to discuss which videos were the most suitable for us to dub. We decided to try out some very short Japanese comercials that we tried last year. I will let the students choose the things that they like, but I am suggesting to start with something simple. I will also suggest to the current Japanese of Highschool level of the area to get involved with his students. It would be interesting to have more people woring in this project.

The current situation in Mexico makes it more difficult to predict the actions of the government for next year. It appears that some states have a great increase in coronavirus cases and the lockdown is becoming more drastic in some areas. In case of the state of Guanajuato, a lot of people depend on the touristic activities, but one can notice that the flow of visitors is still very low.  Some other states in the south of Mexico seem to have virus under control, and the touristic attractions are gradually receiving more and more people. In case of the University of Guanajuato. Students are still involved in their online classes for the last weeks of the year. Most of them attend to these classes and their final exams by relying on virtual platforms.

One of the most symbolic festival on the region was held this November with certain restrictions, but one could get to ride the fantastic hot air balloons and see the view from above. It was possible thanks to the online platform to see all the events that took part of the festival such as concerts, special transmissions and more activities. The entire festival was updated to its official website. This festival is one of my favorite touristic activities which I highly recommend to local and foreign people.

This month I created some more exercises that will be provided to the Japanese area. I am willing to use more platforms to create a wide variety of activities. I am getting involved with a page called Edmodo, and there are some interesting tools that I could be using in the future.



For next month, I would like to re-take some of the dubbing projects we were practicing on last year. We used to have a dubbing workshop that took place in the Japanese area of the school of languages, where we the opportunity to practice the language and talk about the culture. I would like to provide short dubbing projects to help students to get involved on the things they like. The were some aspects of the dubbing techniques that we could not study at that time, but it would be interesting to see the progress of students through practice. Personally, I would prefer to execute this activity face-to-face with students, but I guess that with some video edition programs we are going to be able to have something completed for next month. The students are now about to finish their semester period, so it is then for sure that the students are going to be available for this kind of project. I am excited to see the resulting videos which I will personally upload to YouTube.

Finally, the online conference is finished and various Universities all over the planet have presented their programs and current situation. I provided my personal Email for those who would like to have a more personalized guidance through the process of applying for a scholarship or going abroad. Unfortunately, there is some uncertainty about the future of scholar exchange-programs around the planet. I personally think that the lockdown could be extended a little longer since there are some reports of reappearance of covid. We are still waiting for instructions from the University.

 I planned to go visit the Altar that takes place on the stairs of the main building of UG (pictures of the annual event below), but according to the local diary, this is the first time that this event gets cancelled since the very first inauguration 19 years ago. This was one of the most iconic events of the entire city, but it attracts such quantity of people that it would allow the virus to spread rapidly. Personally, I think that it was a correct choice to cancel this event in order to keep people safe. This Altar is usually set up by the student community and many other supporters. Once the stairs are all covered with traditional food, candy and flowers, the students light dozens of candles when the sun comes down creating an amazing vista. All of objects are there to offer respect and love for those people who are no longer with us. This is just one more tradition related to Día de Muertos (死者の日)

For this month, we provided more touristic spots for the future exchange students to visit. As described in the last month, these cities are normally recommended by local people and students. According to some students these touristic experiences should be taken into account for all foreigners who visit Mexico. I will also provide the link of rest of the didactic material for the students of UG.

For this month I was able to present TUFS to the students on the university of Guanajuato. I made a short presentation containing the most relevant information about the academic degrees and the requirements for going abroad. The transmission was seen by 35 students, and the brochure provided by TUFS was also shared in the main page of the university of Guanajuato. To see the conference and the transmission in detail I will include the links to all the topics seen during the conference.



For this month we are cocreating a presentation with the most important touristic spots that are located close to the city of Guanajuato. This “must visit” places and cities are intended to encourage the foreign student to get to know fantastic cities recommended by the Mexican students. The presentation contains some advice and general information about the most famous places and their singularities.


On the other hand, this year the Film Festival of Guanajuato (GIFF) was held in streaming platforms. Due to the pandemic situation the festival was approached a little bit different this year, but the concept is still the same as always. The city offers the opportunity to watch a wide list of movies to the audience (most of them free cost). Some of the movies were projected of a dam close to one iconic park of the city. The people watched the movies of the festival while eating popcorn on a tiny boat. This event was held at night, for some days. The stars and water produced a very singular atmosphere.

During the first week of September I will present TUFS to the students of the university of Guanajuato. I will point out at the impact of coronavirus and how has affected the situation of many exchange program students around the world. Although it seems that the experience of going abroad has no sense at all in this moment, it is still possible to proceed with the application for next year. The date for the conference will be September 7th at 12:00 pm (Mexico time). It will be a short presentation about the general aspects of being a student within the TUFS program as well as some other current issues with the lockdown. Some other aspects like last year presentation and the procedure of the application for the TUFS scholarship will also be discussed.

This month, I refreshed some of the online activities including more questions and pictures to them. I also included some more artist and information related to Japanese and Mexican artist to the Prezi presentation. This time I looked for recommendation from different websites. The situation with coronavirus seems finally to be getting better for us Mexicans, yet all establishments recommend to maintain very cautious behaviors. It is also important to mention that Cervantino Festival is not going to be celebrated this year, which I personally regret because it is one of the most important cultural events not only in Guanajuato but in all Latin-American. This street shown on the pictures are usually full of people during the festival, but I hope everything will return to normal soon.

The University has decided to reopen some of the administrative activities, yet the offices and all academical activities will remain closed.  The rise of Coronavirus cases is now getting to its worse state since everything started, and the university has not even provided an official date for the actual returning of activities.

As already mentioned, my teacher formation encouraged me to keep creating some didactic material for later use with the students of Japanese. For this month I took some material that I created last year and modified it. Additionally, since I think that teachers should match technology and education, I am still creating some online quizzes about kanjis and grammar for the Nihongo Nouryoku Shiken which is the official Japanese proficiency. There is still a lot to do to convey the plans I have for the creating of material for Students. I personally believe that it is very important to apply these quizzes with the students once the lockdown is over, because I would like to receive some feedback from the students. I want to make sure that the students understand the instructions and if they can follow the dynamics of the online-application.

The following pictures show some of the material I have made for Japanese students in the past when I was doing a professional service for the university. I took some of those exercises and changed the contend and the level of grammar. The one on the left is a simple sentence-constructor with particles and vocabulary and helps students to understand the role of “word-particle” structure of the Japanese language. The other sheets on the right are meant to make students conscious about the range of “politeness” that can be expressed through the use of Futsukei or Masukei. I m still creating some more materials related with more advanced grammar.

As the situation with the quarantine continues a little longer, all activities will remain online. According to the University of Guanajuato, the administrative activities will return to their normal conditions on the last week of July. I am still looking forward to work in the office was assigned a few months ago.

For this month I planned some more quizzes related with basic kanjis of the Japanese program. I will continuously modify the quizzes and making them longer by adding more questions. The program used in the language department is based of some lections of the Mina no Nihongo method, which I personally studied. I added some kanjis from the units five, six and seven, which are normally the kanjis that are thought to children in Japan. I realized that at this level it is tough for basic level students to find new ways of learning kanjis. I think it is important to approach kanji with the use of technology and that is why I am still creating more activities that involve getting in touch with electronic devices.

I made sure to include some instruction in their mother tongue to make it more dynamic and not get them stuck in the same type of activities. I consider that students could get more interested on a activity if it is a little bit challenging.

As for the presentation about the Music of both countries, I have not received an answer from the TUFS student’s opinion yet, but I am still receiving help from the Japanese students of the University of Guanajuato. We keep deciding about which artist represent their country the most. The list will include celebrities from the past and present times. I hope we can all share it with the two groups of students after the quarantine.

Due to the quarantine situation, all of the activities will remain online for some time. All of the material and activities that I planned are intended to be executed in front of the students. I am willing to apply these activities in the future and look for more ideas with both groups of students. The government decided to extend the quarantine one or two more months, unlike Japan, which is coming back to its normal state.

As previously done in the past month, I continued with the creation of didactic material for the Japanese section of the University of Guanajuato. I made sure to include quizzes to improve the recognition of the Keigo forms, which I personally consider to be especially difficult for non-Japanese speakers. I wanted also to include some of the most basic kanjis from the program of studies. The platform that I am using is based mostly on quick quizzes that contain some distractors to the right answer. The player who responds the fastest (with correct answers) is the one who wins.

For this month, I asked some of the students of the Japanese section of the University of Guanajuato about which artists and singers might represent the cultural spirit of the country. Some of them commented that in the case of Mexico, it would be necessary to include some artist of the “golden age of movies”. We chose to include Pedro Infante and Sheena Ringo who are not very known among Mexicans in general, but at least for some students was worth to mention. The idea is to create a data base with the opinion of both student groups, which are the Japanese students and the exchange program students. We will continuously add more and more relevant artists for us.

こんにちは!マルコと申します。28歳です。4年前から言語の教師をしています。 日本の一番好きなところは、言語と日本人の優しさです。子供のころからずっと日本文化に関心があって、今では日本について新しいことを知り、もっと好きになりました。 メキシコのいい所は、メキシコ人の性格とメキシコのカラフルな景色です。 自分の国の文化と日本文化をもっと知りたいと思います。日本人とメキシコ人の交流を手伝うことは嬉しいことです。 大学はまだ現在閉鎖されていますが、スタートできることを待ち望んでいます よろしくお願いします。

Hello! My name is Marco. I’m 28 years old. I have been a language teacher for four years. My favorite things about Japan are the language and the kindness of the Japanese people. I’ve been interested in Japanese culture since I was a child, and now I know many new things about Japan, so I like it even more. The good things about Mexico are the character of the people and the colorful scenery. I want to know more about my country’s culture and Japanese culture. I am happy to help Japanese and Mexican people interact. The university is still closed, but I look forward to starting soon.

In this report I will show the progress of the creation of material I planned for April using the platform kahoot. Finally, I will bring some new ideas and activities to work on during the whole month.

Due to the situation of quarantine in Mexico, there was not any opportunity to gather together with the students. However, there might be the chance to apply what I made for the students next month (hopefully). The University and its offices are not opened for the moment, so all the activities will remain online. Consequently, it is not possible to continue with the usual activities within the university.

I started a project of creation of material last year when I was teaching Japanese, but I stopped since I started to teach Spanish online. This month I have been reorganizing and creating more questions and activities. The activities were created according to the Japanese language program of the University of Guanajuato. The platform I used is called “kahoot” which as been getting much more recognition between teachers nowadays. By using this platform, one can create virous types of quizzes and puzzles about any topic. Students can follow the questions and or presentations and interact in real time. I have some experience using this method and students seem to enjoy it. I am willing to play and cocreate more material with the students in a future.

The government of Mexico and the University of Guanajuato have decided to extend quarantine. Therefore, it would be convenient to keep creating material for later use. In this month, I would like to contact some students and cocreate some presentations about Mexican artist and their work. I personally think that it would be interesting to show exchange students about the artist students use to listen. I also create some more activities using the platform kahoot for later use. This time, I will focus on more advanced levels (fifth and sixth semesters). At this level students need to get used to various kenjogo and Sonkeigo expressions. I personally think that this type of grammar is particularly difficult to learn for most western languages. I think that one can find plenty of basic material from internet and other sources, but it is quite rare to find material to practice this level of language.

皆さん、お元気ですか。 How is everyone?

皆さん知っているようにCOVID-19の影響で色々な国で活動が急に止まりました。 メキシコで3月15日に3月22日から4月20日まで全ての学校が閉まるという報告がでました。グアナファトの全ての学校は16日から休みを取ることにしました。そのため、グアナフアト大学では全てが本当にあっという間でした。 As you all know, COVID-19 has suddenly forced activities to stop in various countries. On March 15 there was a notice that all schools in Mexico will be closed from March 22 until April 20. Everything was busy at the University of Guanajuato, as all schools in Guanajuato were closed from the 16th.

その一週間前、日本語ロールプレイゲームクラブがありました。 今回はペアを組み、一人が絵をみて相手に説明する、その相手は絵の説明だけを聞きながら頑張って絵を描きました。とても楽しかったです。クラスも日本語ロールプレイゲームクラブもしばらくできなくなりますので皆悲しいですが、安全を第一にする方が大切ですね。 A week ago, there was a meeting of the Japanese roleplaying game club. This time, students got into pairs in which one of them would look at a picture and explain it to the other, who would then listen and attempt to draw said picture. This game was very fun. It’s sad that we won’t be able to play Japanese roleplaying games for a while, everyone is sad about it, but it’s important to put safety first.

グアナファトで毎年行っているディア・デ・ラス・フロレス(花の日)も中止になりました。中心街に行って花を買ったり、友達に会ったり伝統な日です。今年は仕方ないけれど、来年はまた皆さんは楽しみにしています。 Guanjuato’s annual Dia de las Flores (Flower Day) has also been cancelled. It’s tradition on this day to go downtown, buy flowers and meet friends. It can’t be helped this year, but everyone is looking forward to next year.

先月も書いたんですが、私は今年から文部科学省(2020年度・研究留学生)によって日本で勉強することになりましたので、GJOコーディネーターができなくなります。 I mentioned it the other day, but I will start studying in Japan this year as a MEXT research student (2020 intake), so I won’t be able to be the GJO coordinator anymore.

今月、次のGJOグアナファトのコーディネーターを紹介したいと思います。 明るい性格で、日本語が上手で、日本語ロールプレイゲームクラブに参加している方です。 I would like to introduce you to the next coordinator of GJO Guanajuato. He has a bright attitude, is good at Japanese and participates in Japanese roleplaying game club.

1 – 自己紹介からお願いします / Please introduce yourself.

マルコと申します。28歳です。4年前から言語の教師やっています。 My name is Marco. I’m 28 years old. I’ve been a language teacher for four years.

2 – 日本/日本語の何か好きですか? / What do you like about Japanese/Japan?

一番好きなのは言語と日本人の優しさ。子供のころからずっと日本文化の関心があって、今では日本についての新しいこと見つけてもっとすきになりました。 I like the language and the kindness of the Japanese people the most. I’ve been interested in Japanese culture since I was a child, and I like it even more now because I keep finding out new things about Japan.

3 – メキシコの何がいいと思いますか? / What do you think is great about Mexico?

メキシコ人の性格とメキシコのカラフルな景色。 The character of the Mexican people and the colorful scenery.

4 – GJOとしてやってみたいことがありますか? / Is there anything you want to do at the GJO?

自分の文化と日本文化をもっと知りたいと思います。日本人とメキシコ人に奉仕するのは最高なんです。 I want to learn more about my own culture and Japanese culture. Being able to work with both Japanese and Mexican people is great.

5 – あと自由の一言お願いいたします。/ Anything else you’d like to say?

大学は現在閉鎖されていますが、開始することを望んでいます。 皆さん、これからどうぞよろしくお願いします The university is currently closed, but I hope to start soon. I look forward to working with you all.

読んでくれた皆さん、この三年間大変面白かったです。また日本やメキシコでTUFSと協力できるといいなと思っています。 Everyone, it’s been a lot of fun for the last three years. I hope to work with TUFS again in Mexico or Japan.

皆さん、お元気ですか How is everyone?

今月、大使館から、文部科学省(2020年度・研究留学生)の受入通知書が届きました。そこで、4月から私はしばらく日本で勉強することになりました。 This month, I received a notice of acceptance via the Embassy from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Academic Year 2020 Research Students). With this I will study in Japan for a while from April.

そのため、私は4月からGJOグアナファトコーディネーターができなくなります。この機会をいただき、とても嬉しい反面、GJOを辞めるのは残念な気持ちです。 Therefore, I will not be able to be the GJO Guanajuato coordinator anymore from April onwards. I am very happy to have this opportunity, but I am sorry to leave the GJO.

こうなると吹き替え研究会はどうなりますか? If so, what will happen to the Dubbing Workshop?

- 吹き替えが詳しい自分が今年の四月からいなくなりますので、私がいなくても簡単に続けられるように、日本語を使って遊べる形にしたくて、吹き替え研究会のメインコンセプトが変えました。 I am familiar with dubbing and will leave from this April, so I decided to change the main concept of the Workshop to an activity style that can be continued easily without me.

- 吹き替えを主にした吹き替え研究会ではなく、日本語が使えるロールプレイゲームクラブにしました。 そうすれば吹き替えは主ではなく、他のこともできる活動として考えられます。皆な、これからの活動を楽しみにしています。 Instead of a Dubbing Workshop whose activities revolve around dubbing, we decided to make the club a role-playing game club where you can use Japanese. By doing this, the club can branch out and do other activities. I am looking forward to seeing the club’s future activities.

さて、7月から滞在して、このセメスターは留学の第二学期を始めている東京外国語大学の直穂さんは簡単なインタビューに答えてくれました。 Moving on, I interviewed Naoho, a TUFS student who came to Guanajuato in July. She is starting her second semester of studying abroad.

1-自己紹介からお願いします / Please introduce yourself. 

東京外国語大学スペイン語3年の山田直穂と申します。去年の7月末からメキシコのグアナファト大学に私費留学しています。 My name is YAMADA Naoho, and I am a third-year Spanish major at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. I have been studying abroad at my own expense at the University of Guanajuato in Mexico since the end of July last year.

2-留学するためにメキシコを選んだのは何故ですか? / Why did you choose to study in Mexico? 

もともとメキシコの文化に興味があり、メキシコに留学したいと思っていました。外大でスペイン語を選んだのもそのためです。 I was interested in Mexican culture and wanted to study in Mexico. That’s why I chose to major in Spanish at university.

3-メキシコに来て一番良かったことは何ですか / What was the best thing about coming to Mexico?

メキシコの人々との出会いが1番大きいです。またメキシコのあらゆる文化、歴史、メキシコ料理やさまざまなジャンルの音楽、踊り、パーティー、人々の考え方、恋愛、宗教、社会問題などを、実際に体験していることです。 Meeting the people of Mexico has been the best part for me. I was also able to experience various aspects of Mexican culture, history, food, genres of music, dances, parties, people’s way of thinking, love, religion and social issues.

4-留学で困ったことがありましたか? / Did you have any troubles during your study abroad?  

私費留学なので、現地の大学で自分であちこち聞きに行ったり、毎日のようにオフィスで相談・交渉したりしました。銀行や携帯会社や大学など、サービスは日本と全然異なり、たくさんトラブルがありました。 In order to study abroad at my own expense, I had to ask various questions by myself and negotiated things at the university office almost every day. The services offered by banks, mobile phone companies and universities are completely different from those offered in Japan, so I had some problems with those.

5-日本に帰ったらメキシコの何が恋しくなりますか / What will you miss about Mexico when you return to Japan? 

メキシコで出会った人々、タコスをはじめとするメキシコ料理、このグアナファトの町、音楽、パーティー、このメキシコの文化、きっと全部です。 The people I met in Mexico, tacos and other Mexican food, the town of Guanajuato, music, parties, Mexican culture, everything.

6-東京外国語大学の後輩たちに留学するためにメキシコをグアナファト大学をお勧めしましか / Would you recommend studying abroad in Mexico and the University of Guanajuato to your lowerclassmen at TUFS?

非常にお勧めです。私は最初メキシコシティに行こうかと思っていましたが、グアナファトにして良かったと思っています。町は小さいですが、その分街を歩けば知り合いがたくさんいて、学生がたくさんいて、非常に安全で、基本どこにでも歩いて行けて、景色も非常に綺麗で街並みは可愛くて、人々は親切です。そして人気の観光地であり、死者の日やセルバンティーノだけでなく、年中様々なイベントがあります。私はグアナファト大学の観光学部で勉強していますが、ホテル実習やイベント企画運営や市内のイベントの手伝いなど、課外活動も多く、大学の勉強にはとても満足しています。 I would highly recommend both. I was thinking of going to Mexico City at first, but I’m glad I chose Guanajuato. The town is small, but because of this you meet many acquaintances in the streets, and there are many students. It’s very safe, you can basically walk anywhere, the scenery is very beautiful, the streets are cute, and the people are kind. It’s a popular tourist destination, with many events throughout the year as well as the Day of the Dead and Cervantino. I am studying at the tourism department of the University of Guanajuato, and I am very satisfied with my studies at the university because I have a lot of extracurricular activities such as hotel practice, event planning, and helping with events in the city.

グアナフアト大学では、12月の中から1月の中旬か上旬まで冬休みがあります。 次の1月から6月までの学期が始まる前にメキシコで旅行をしたり観光したり、家でのんびりしたりのいいチャンスです。 Guanajuato University has winter vacation from December unil the beginning or middle of January. It’s a good chance to travel and do some sightseeing in Mexico, and to relax at home before the next semester, January-June, begins.

いつも通り留学生の皆さんへ歓迎イベントがありました、今回は交換留学は59人がいました、13国からの50人と、国内から9人もいました。 外国の方々はドイツ(7人)、スペイン(4人)、米国(4人)、フランス(10人)、日本(7人)、中国(7人)、コロンビア(4人)、韓国(2人)、ノルウェー(1人)、アルゼンチン(1人)、ペル(1人)、カナダ(1人)とチリ(1人)です。 There was a welcome event for international students as usual, this time there were 59 exchange students – 50 students from 13 foreign countries and 9 students from Japan. The countries of the other international students are Germany (seven) Spain (four), US (four), France (ten), Japan (seven), China (seven), Colombia (four), Korea (two), Norway (one), Argentina (one), Peru (one), Canada (one) and Chile (one).

前の人数に私費留学生を加えて考えると、グアナフアトは小さい町にして、留学生は多いです。そしていつも一番新しい留学生がいるのは春学期ではなくて、秋学期です。 Guanajuato is a small town, but there are many international students, especially if you include the number of privately-funded international students. Also, the newest international students always come in fall, not spring.

みんなはこれからそれぞれのグアナフアト大学にある4つのキャンパスで勉強します。 From now on, everyone will study at the four campuses of the University of Guanajuato.

皆さんこんにちは。 グロバルジャパンオフィスグアナファトのコーディネーターヤイル・イェブラです あけましておめでとうございます この2019は面白い年になりましたね。 Hello, everyone. This is Yair Alejandro Yebra Lara, coordinator of the Global Japan Office Guanajuato. Happy New Year. 2019 has been an interesting year.

12月も面白かったです。まず、毎年と同じく、12月の第一日曜日に、日本語能力試験がメキシコシティで行われますので、メキシコの色々な都市から日本語を勉強している人が試験を受けに行っています。 今年は、グアナフアト大学のグループが集まり、皆は一緒に受け行きました。試験のことが心配しながら、友達をいると、何だか落ち着けますね、今年の旅行は楽しかったです。 試験の結果は1月の下旬からインターネットでチェックできますので、それまで試験を受けてみましたの皆さんが緊張してしまいます。 December was also interesting. First of all, on the first Sunday of December every year, the Japanese Language Proficiency Test is held in Mexico City, so people studying Japanese from various cities in Mexico went to take the test. This year, a group from the University of Guanajuato got together and took the exam together. We’re worried about the exam, but we feel calm when we have friends. The results of the exam can be checked on the Internet from the end of January, so everyone who took the exam will be a little nervous until then. Guanajuato 1912 (1) そして、グアナフアト大学で日本語を勉強している学生たちと、留学している日本人の方々のためスポーツ大会がありました。 バスケットボール、ドッジボール、そしてメキシコのゲームと日本の「だるまさんがころんだ」まで体験できました。とても楽しかったです。 There was also a sports event for students studying Japanese at the University of Guanajuato and Japanese students studying abroad. We were able to experience basketball, dodge ball, Mexican games and Japanese games such as “Daruma-san fell down”. We had a great time.

Guanajuato 1912 (2) そして、グアナフアト大学で画期的なデモがありました。 生徒の一人が遺体で発見されたという事件に対して、無関心を貫き、メディアを買収して事件に言及する記事を削除するなどを始めとした生徒の安全を軽視した大学の態度に対して、学生達が12/4からデモを行いました。生徒たちが要求したのは、大学、州レベルでの安全対策への関心とそれを実行する努力でした。 デモ中で、もと日本からの留学生はこの記事を書きました。 There was also a groundbreaking demonstration at the University of Guanajuato. Students demonstrated from 12/4 against the university’s indifference towards an incident in which a student was found dead, and its disregard for student safety, including bribing the media and deleting articles mentioning the incident. The students demanded interest in and efforts to implement safety measures at the university and state levels. During the demonstration, a former student from Japan wrote this article:

グアナファト大学でデモが発生。何が起きた?詳細を解説します / “What Happened at the University of Guanajuato? Details on the Demonstration and More”

デモのきっかけは災難な事件でしたが、デモは驚くほど完全に平和的であって、グアナフアト大学の卒業生、またグアナフアト国民達も協力して食べ物などを提供しました。 また、グアナフアト大学のオーケストラや音楽専攻、また舞台芸術学科の学生は演奏をしていました。何だかグアナフアト大学のコミュニティーは一つになって、画期的な協力、“グアナフアト大学の誇り”が溢れていました。 12月9日に、グアナファト大学学長、グアナファト市長、グアナファト州知事とグアナファト司法長官との協力請願書を結びその日の夜デモが無事に終わりました。 その後期末試験があり、冬休みに入りました。 クリスマスやニューイヤーパーティーの前の夜、家族が集まって一緒にお祝いするのが一般的です。 The demonstration was a disaster, but surprisingly was completely peaceful, with graduates of the University of Guanajuato and the people of Guanajuato cooperating to provide food and other services. Also, students from the University of Guanajuato ‘s Orchestra, Music Department and Department of Performing Arts performed. Somehow, the community of the University of Guanajuato came together and was overflowing with innovative cooperation and pride for the University of Guanajuato. On December 9, the president of the University of Guanajuato, the mayor of Guanajuato, the governor of the state of Guanajuato and the Attorney General of Guanajuato signed a cooperation petition, and the demonstration ended successfully that night. After that, students had their final exams, and the winter vacation began. It is common for families to gather and celebrate together on the night before Christmas and New Year’s parties.

皆さんこんにちは。 Hello, everyone. メキシコでは11月と言ったら、主に二つが思い浮かびます。 In Mexico, when it comes to November, two main things come to mind. 死者の日(ディア・デ・ムエルトス)とメキシコ革命です。 These are Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) and the Mexican Revolution. 死者の日(11月2日)は,基本的に亡くなった先祖に敬意を払って思い出すためのお祝いです、その日、先祖はまた遊びに来てくれると思っている人が少なくありません。メキシコの沢山の家族や、大学、政府が死者への祭壇を立てます。 毎年、グアナファト大学で大きい祭壇が作られています。今年の祭壇はこちらです。 The Day of the Dead (November 2) is basically a celebration to honor and remember our deceased ancestors. On this day, many people believe that their ancestors will come to visit them. Many families, universities and governments in Mexico set up altars for the dead. Every year, a large altar is set up at the University of Guanajuato. This is the altar for this year.

そして、今回は死者の日の特別計画として、グアナファトの内政は、タペテ・デ・ムエルトス(死者へラグのようなもの)を作られることになりました。国際交流の目的としてこれが作られたので。日本人の留学生は特別なタペテ・デ・ムエルトスを作ってみました。 This year, as a special program for the Day of the Dead, the internal government of Guanajuato made a tapete de muertos (a special type of rug for the dead). Since this event aimed to promote international exchange, the Japanese exchange students participated and attempted to create a special tapete de muertos.

とても素敵ではありませんか。こんな風でメキシコの文化と日本の文化の伝統的なところが絵で一緒になるのは一番の魅力だと私は思います。 Isn’t it so nice? In my opinion, the greatest part of it is how the traditional aspects of Mexican and Japanese culture are brought together in one picture. これはメキシコの革命が1910年に行われた先祖のお祝いです。ポルフィリオ・ディアスという大統領のおよそ30年間の統治下、社会的不平等が広がり、政府を変えるため先祖によって革命が行われ、国は大きく進歩しました。革命はいいことではなく、悪いことだと思っている人もいますが、今には毎年その先祖のお祝いとして、祝日になって、警察、消防士、小学校と中学校の学生たちまではパレードで歩いたりしています。 This was also a celebration for our ancestors that participated in The Mexican Revolution of 1910. Inequality prevailed in Mexican society during Porfirio Díaz’s 30 years as president, which resulted in a revolution to change the government. At that time, the country changed so much that some people thought the revolution was a bad thing rather than a good thing, but even now, every year, to celebrate their ancestors, the police, firefighters, and even elementary and junior high school students, walk in a parade on this holiday.

皆さんこんにちは。 Hello, everyone.

今回は10月にあった二つのイベントについて話したいと思います。 その一つはプレゼン・メヒコ(PUREZEN MEXICO)2019。 This time I would like to talk about two events that happened in October. One of them is 『PUREZEN MÉXICO 2019』. 過去2回グアナファトにて開催された『PUREZEN MÉXICO』。今年はグアダラハラにて開催されました! ‘PUREZEN MÉXICO’ was held in Guanajuato twice in the past. It was held in Guadalajara this year! 『PUREZEN MÉXICO』は、メキシコ中部地方の日本語学習者が日本語を使って『メキシコについて』プレゼンテーション大会です。「共感」「思い」「根拠」の3つの点を評価し、 特に「相手の気持ちを動かすことができたか」という点を重視して評価が行われます。 ‘PUREZEN MÉXICO’ is a presentation competition where Japanese language learners from the central regions of Mexico present ‘About Mexico’ using Japanese. The evaluation is based on 3 points: “empathy”, “thought”, and “evidence”, with a particular emphasis on “did you move the audience?”. 今年二つのカテゴリーで、二つのテーマがありました。 カテゴリーA(初級~中級) テーマ「ウィシャリカス族の民芸品のアイデア」 カテゴリーB(上級) テーマ「日墨の異文化交流を意識した新しいイベント企画」 この二つのカテゴリーの参加したチームを合わせて、7チームでした。 There were two topics and two categories this year. Category A (Elementary to Intermediate) Topic: “Ideas for Wixarika folk crafts” Category B (Advanced) Topic: ” New event planning for cross-cultural exchange between Japan and Mexico” There were seven teams from these two categories.

今回は、7年前ぐらいから日本語を一緒に勉強してきた友達とカテゴリーBに参加しました。とても楽しかったです。それぞれのチームは面白い発表ができて、今まで知らなかったことや考えてなかったイベントが沢山ありました。 This time, I joined Category B with a friend who has been studying Japanese together since 7 years ago, and it was very fun. Each team made an interesting presentation and presented on a lot of things and events that I didn’t know of or hadn’t thought about before.


二つ目の話したいことは、毎年の10月にグアナファトに行われるFestival Internacional Cervantino (FIC)、セルバンティーノという国際芸術祭です。 今年は第47回でスペシャル・ゲストとしてカナダとメキシコのゲレーロ州が来ました。 The second thing I would like to talk about is the Festival International Cervantino (FIC), an international art festival held in Guanajuato every October. 毎年世界中の観光者が来ます。今年は日本の東京スカパラダイスオーケストラも来ました。 This year we had special guests from Canada and the Mexican state of Guerrero. ‘TOKYO SKA PARADISE ORCHESTRA’ also came from Japan. 本当に面白かったです。比較的イベントの会場費が安くて、ただで観られるイベントもあります。みなさん、今度のセルバンティーノに来てみませんか? It was really fun. The admission fee for the event is relatively cheap, and there are some events you can watch for free, so why don’t we all come to ‘Festival International Cervantino’ next time?

来年のセルバンティーノも楽しみです。 I am also looking forward to the Cervantino next year.

As every September in the University of Guanajuato, an academic forum was carried out. Not just Japan but universities around the world came here.


Every University had a stand to talk with the students.

東京外国語大学のブース、また紹介するためにプレゼンテーションで、グアナフアト大学の学生たちにTUFSへ留学するように色々な情報、交換留学生として日本での経験、生活アドバイスなどを提供してきました。 日本語ができた学生もいましたので、その学生たちにも吹き替え研究会に誘ってみました。

In the Stand and presentation of TUFS, I talked about TUFS, my experience as an exchange student in japan, and advices about living in Japan. Also I invited the student who had a good Japanese level to join in the Japanese- Spanish Dubbing club.

また、ジャパンボールメキシコというイベントもありました。 このイベントでは日本についてのクイズイベントです、文化、歴史、経済、など幅広いテーマについて質問がありました。 優勝できたチームは日本への航空券をもらいました。 今回はグアナファトで行われて、私が司会者を勤めました。 日本の会社、スポンサー企業、ボランティア留学生もいて、とても楽しかったです。

Also, There was an event about Quizzes of Japan. “Japan Bowl Mexico” There were Quizzes about culture, history, economy and more themes. Every member of the team which won this contest got an air plane ticket to go to Japan! This year the event took place in Guanajuato city, I was invited to be the master of ceremony. 今年、グアナフアト大学は六月から八月の5日まで夏休みでした。いつも通り四つのキャンパスの学生たちは町に戻って8月~12月学期を積極的に始めました。 This year, the University of Guanajuato’s summer vacation was from June until August 5. Students from all four campuses returned to the city, and dove into the August-December semester.

今月もグアナファト町で日本のお祭りがありました! 日本の食べ物、お菓子、酒、そして日本のダンス、音楽、映画なども吹き替え研究会も参加しました。そちらでライブ吹き替えをやって、前にできていたビデオを再生しました。 とても楽しかったです。 This month, a Japan festival was held in Guanajuato. There was Japanese food, sweets and alcohol on offer, and Japanese dances, music and films were showcased. Even the Dubbing Workshop participated in the festivities. The Workshop did a live dubbing session, and also screened a video of one they had made in the past.

15日に吹き替え研究会が再開しました、この長い間で、たくさんの吹き替えをやったり、日本語/スペイン語でゲームをしたりしてきましたので、他の学生に教えられる先輩たちがたくさんがいます。 これからもみんな楽しみにしています。 On the 15th, the Dubbing Workshop resumed its activities. Because we have done many dubs, and played many games in Japanese and Spanish over the years, there are many members who can teach other newer students. I look forward to working with everyone in the Workshop from hereon out.

短いビデオなんですけど、このセメスターの最初の吹き替えで皆が参加することができました、まだまだ日本語やタイミングの練習が必要ですが皆で一緒に考えてやろうという気持ちを大切にしながら伝えられたと思います。 It’s a short video, but everyone was able to participate in the first dubbing project of the semester. The students still need to work on their Japanese and timing, but I think they were able to convey the feeling of thinking and working together.

グアナフアト大学では、六月から八月の上旬まで夏休みです。 It is summer vacation here at the University of Guanajuato, from June until the start of August.

八月から“八月~十二月セメスター“という学期が始まりますから日本といろいろの国の留学生もたくさん来て来ました。毎セメスターの皆さんへの歓迎イベントがありました、学生たちは自分の文化の発表をしたり、グアナフアト大学の学長が挨拶の言葉を聞いたり、メキシコ料理を食べたりしました。留学生のみんなはこれからそれぞれの4つキャンパスで勉強します。 In August, the August-December semester begins, so exchange students from many countries, including Japan, have come to Guanajuato. We held the usual welcome event for them, at which they gave presentations on their own cultures, listened to a speech from the President of the University of Guanajuato, and ate Mexican food. From now on, these students will study at the University’s four campuses.

今年は去年と比べたら自分の国の紹介が短かったけれど、色々な国のお菓子などがありまして、すべてとてもおいしかったです。 This year’s presentations were shorter than last year’s, but there were also many sweets from different countries on offer, which were all very good.

またこの月にはグアナファトの二つの大切のお祝いの日があります、アペルテゥラ・デ・ラ・プレザとディア・デ・ラ・クエヴァです。 This month, Guanajuato had two of its most important holidays. These were Apertura de la Presa (Opening of the Dam) and Dia de la Cueva (Cave Day).

アペルテゥラ・デ・ラ・プレザにはプレザ・デ・ラ・オヤというダムの扉を開いて、梅雨でたまった水を逃すというイベントです。意外に大勢の人が集まるお祭りになります。 On Apertura de la Presa, the floodgates of the La Olla Dam are opened to let out the water that accumulated during the rainy season. It is a festival that usually has an unexpectedly large turnout. gua19090301 ディア・デ・ラ・クエヴァについて去年も話しましたが、今年も日本人の留学生たちと 一緒に行きました。簡単にいうと、キリスト教のお祝いで毎年の7月31日ラ・ブファという山を登ることです。天辺では町の景色が見えるしとてもきれいでいい経験です。 I wrote about Dia de la Cueva last year, and this year I went again with the Japanese exchange students. Basically, this is a Christian holiday held every year on July 31, during which people climb La Bufa (the Bufa hills). 3 – 留学でメキシコの良かったものはなんですか / What was the best thing about studying in Mexico? メキシコ料理が美味しかったこと Mexican food

4- 留学でグアナファトの良かったものはなんですか / What was the best thing about studying in Guanajuato? 街並みが綺麗なところと気候が穏やかだったところ。それと文化的におもしろい場所やイベントがたくさんあるところ。 The city is beautiful, and the climate is mild. Also there are many culturally-intriguing spots and events.

5- 良くなかったものは?/ What didn’t you like? 歩道や道路が汚く、ガタガタなところ。一年の間にとても太ってしまったこと。 The sidewalks and roads were dirty and rough. Also I gained a lot of weight during my year here.

6- 留学のためグアナファトを他の日本人にお勧めしますか / Would you recommend studying abroad at Guanajuato to other Japanese people? オススメする 理由: 日本の文化が浸透しており、日本人には住みやすいと考えるから。 Yes I would. Reason: Japanese culture is pretty well known in Guanajuato, so I think it’s easy for Japanese people to live here.

7 – 吹き替え研究会について自由に感想などを書いてください / How did you find the Dubbing Workshop? とても楽しかった。吹研を通して、友達を作れたことが本当にうれしかった。それでいてスペイン語での会話表現やトーンといったもの学べたことはとても大きい。吹研でつくった繋がりや思い出は、自分にとって留学中の最高の宝物の一つだ。特に、ヤイルにはとてもお世話になった。 It was really fun. I’m really happy I was able to make friends through the Workshop. I also was able to learn about Spanish conversational phrases and tone, which is a pretty big accomplishment. The connections and memories I made at the Dubbing Workshop are one the greatest treasures I gained from my exchange. I am particularly indebted to Yair, the GJO Coordinator.

グアナフアト大学では、6月から8月の7日まで夏休みです。メキシコで旅行をしたり観光したり、家でのんびりしたりのいいチャンスでございます。 グアナフアト大学で勉強している学生たちはほとんど別のところから勉強しに来ているのでので、皆の学生たちは故郷に帰って、町の雰囲気どんどん変わってきます、学生の代わりに観光客がたくさんいます。 去年のように、この学期の吹替え研究のラストもありました! Here at the University of Guanajuato, June until August 7 is the summer vacation. It is a good chance to travel around Mexico, do some sightseeing and relax at home. Most of the students studying here come from other places, so everyone goes home, the whole vibe of the city changes, and the students are replaced in the meantime by tourists. Same as last year, the Dubbing Workshop held its final meeting this month!

せっかく学期のラストでしたので、スペイン語と日本語で短くて割りと簡単な吹き替えをやってみました。 みなさん、ポケモンのアニメを見たことがありますか ポケモンのロケット団の有名な登場セリフをやってみました。 実践吹き替えのビデオ(スペイン語のみ)がありますので どうぞお楽しんでください。 Since it was the last meeting of the semester, we did some simple dubbing in Spanish and Japanese. Have you ever watched Pokémon? The students tried dubbing the famous scene when Team Rocket appears. I took some videos of the students doing their dubs, I hope you enjoy them.

その後、いつも活動をしているところにお好み焼きパーティーがあって、そちらで日本語のクラスを受けている学生たちと吹き替え研究会の皆で参加しました。とても面白かったです。 After this, we had an okonomiyaki party in the room we always meet in, and were joined by other students from the Japanese department. It was a lot of fun.

メキシコでは、五月はよくお休みの日がある一ヶ月です。仕事の日(五月一日)、シンコ・デ・マヨとして知られているプエブラの戦争の日(ラ・バタヤ・デ・プエブラ)(五月五日)母の日(五月十日)先生の日(五月十五日)学生の日(五月二十三日)また大学生の日(五月二十五日)など、色々休みの日がありますが、カレンダーに休みの日として書かれていません、グアナフアト大学の場合では、普通の日と考えられて、当日クラスが中止になったり、学校が閉めてしまったりこともあります。ですから今月の吹き替え研究会は二日中止になってしまいましたが、普通に活動があった日は面白かったです。 May in Mexico is a month full of holidays. There were many different holidays this month including Labor Day (May 1), the Battle of Pueblo Day (otherwise known as Cinco de Mayo, May 5), Mother’s Day (May 10), Teacher’s Day (May 15), Student’s Day (May 23) and even University Student’s Day (May 25). However, these were not written as holidays on my calendar, as the University of Guanajuato treats them as normal days, and simply cancels classes or closes the campus when these days arrive. Because of this, the Dubbing Workshop was cancelled twice this month, but the days we did meet were fun as usual.

即興ゲーム、翻訳、アダプテーション、ロールプレイングゲームや普通の日本語とスペイン語での会話をしながらお互いに協力して日本語とスペイン語の不自然なところを直していっていました。 The students played improv games and practiced translating and adapting, and also cooperated in fixing each other’s mistakes while playing roleplaying games and having normal conversations in both Spanish and Japanese.

グアナフアト大学は毎年の学生の日に特別なお祝いのコンサートをしています。 アロンディガ・デ・グラナディタスというメキシコの国立戦争の大切な建物で毎年やっています、今年もそうでした。 Every year at the University of Guanajuato, a special concert is held on Student’s Day. This concert is held every year at the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, a historic building from the Mexican civil war, and so it was held here again this year. guanajuato190701_1guanajuato190701_2

またメキシコにある大学の学期は基本的に1月から6月までと8月から12月までですので、この学期の最終期限テストや発表は五月の下旬と六月の上旬にありまして、今月本学の学生も留学生たちもバタバタして一所懸命で勉強したりしています。もちろん日本人の留学生たちもそうです。 Most universities in Mexico have their semesters from January to June, and August to December, and their final exams and presentations are held from late May to early June, so the students and exchange students at Guanajuato were quite busy studying hard this month. The Japanese exchange students were, of course, studying hard too.

皆さんこんにちは! Hello everyone!

セマナ・サンタとセマナ・デ・パスクアを聞いたことがありますか キリスト教の有名なお祝い二週間です。 簡単に言うと(ジーザス)の死と復活を覚えて、自分の罪を反省するための二週間です。メキシコで三日から二週間までを休む人がいます。 日本のゴールデンウイークとシルバーウイークと比べられます。 グアナファトは特別です。セマナ・サンタの前の木曜日と金曜日は花の日を祝いされます、町でたくさんの花や料理のブースがあって大勢の人が集まります。彼女や可愛いと思っている人(知らなくても)にそのブースで売っている花をあげるのは普通です。この花の日で、グアナフアト大学は二週間半の春休みがありました。 Have you ever heard of Semana Santa and Semana de Pascua? Together, they make up a famous two-week Christian holiday (known as Holy Week or Easter in English). Putting it simply, this holiday is a two-week period to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and to reflect on your own sins. In Mexico, many people take time off for two weeks from April 3. It is comparable with Golden Week or Silver Week in Japan. Guanajuato has a special way of celebrating this holiday. The Thursday and Friday before Semana Santa, Guanajuato celebrates “Flowers Day”, so many people gather in the city center to enjoy flower and food stalls. It is custom for men to give flowers to their girlfriends, or to anyone they think is cute (even if they don’t know them). Starting with Flowers Day, the University of Guanajuato entered into its two-week spring break.


いつも春の始まりぐらいにお祝いされるけれど、今年は何故か三週間ぐらい遅くなりました。 4月の活動報告やグアナファトに行いました面白いことは、Semana de Pascua (セマナ・デ・パスクア) がありました。また、春休みに入る前に吹き替え研究会を収録しました。 While this celebration usually happens at the start of spring, this year it was pushed back by about three weeks for some reason. Most of our activities this month centered around Semana de Pascua. The Dubbing Workshop also met once before the spring break.

メキシコには、日本と同じく、春、夏、秋と冬、四つの季節があります。 期間も変わりません、 夏は暑くなりますし、冬も寒くなります、しかし、日本ほど温度の変化は大きくありません。それでも春にはハカランダという紫色の葉がある木が3月から4月にかけて咲き始めます。このハカランダを見るといつも日本の桜を思い出します。 グアナファトのハカランダは日本の桜ほどはありませんが、いい景色が見える所があります。この年は三月に咲いて、このような景色が見えたのです。 Just like Japan, Mexico has four distinct seasons. The time of year is the same, summer is hot and winter is cold, but the temperature changes aren’t quite as extreme as Japan. In Spring, from March to April, the purple flowers of the Jacaranda trees bloom. When I look at them, I always think of the cherry blossom trees in Japan. There are not as many Jacaranda in Guanajuato as there are cherry blossoms in Japan, but there are many spots where they improve the scenery. This year, the Jacaranda bloomed in March, so I was able to see them.


吹替え研究には【あれ売るゲーム】というゲームをやってみました。 去年から何回やってみましたが、今回はそのゲームの流れを皆さんに紹介したいと思います。 At the Dubbing Workshop we played a game called “Sell That”. We’ve played this game many times in the last year, so today I would like to teach it to you all.

名前からみればわかりやすいと思います。 あれ=特に決定していないこと、“あれ”は何でもなれるというか、なんでも“あれ”になれる、現実的にあるのでも抽象的やファンタシーなものでも可能です。普通の傘とか、瞬間移動機能があるヘッドホンとかドラえもんのどこでもドアなど。 Looking at its name, this game is sort of self-explanatory. In this game, the player has to “sell” “that’ – “that” is not defined, so “that” can be anything, or rather, anything can be “that”. “That” can be something realistic and tangible, or something abstract and fantastic. It could be an umbrella, headphones that function as a teleportation device, or Doraemon’s Anywhere Door.

“売る”というのは、そのままの意味です。誰かがセールスマンになって皆さんに紹介し、特徴や値段を説明します。即興ゲームなので、いつでも観客側の誰かが質問をしたり、製品を避難したりできます。会話はおかしくなったり、喧嘩になったりすることもありますから、日本語とスペイン語のいい勉強になります。 私もたまにやってみますから、その時は敬語の練習をしています。 さらに日本語を直すのに、皆さんはセールスマンの日本語/スペイン語で 違和感があったところをメモして、最後に教えます。 “Sell” then, of course, means exactly that. In this game, one person becomes the salesperson and explains the features and price of their product, their “that”. Since it is an improv game, other players (who are the audience) are allowed to ask questions and criticize the product. From there the conversations become quite funny, and sometimes even turn into fights, so this game is a good chance for students to practice their Spanish and Japanese. Sometimes I join in and make the students practice polite speech. While playing, the students also note down any mistakes they heard in the salesperson’s Japanese or Spanish so they can correct them afterwards.

今回、TUFSへ8月から留学できるようにグアナフアト大学の学生たちは申し込み、二人が来学期からTUFSへ勉強をしに行きます。 This month, students from the University of Guanajuato applied to study abroad at TUFS from August onwards, and two students were accepted for the next quarter.

2017年の8月から始まりました吹き替え研究会は、2月7日(木)に再開することができました。グアナファト大学の言語学校 会議室1、毎週火曜日と木曜日の18:00から20:30までになりました。 新しいメンバーが(メキシコ人2人と日本人2人)入りました。8月から入っている先輩たちも7人います。クラスで普段使うチャンスがない日本語を使って、楽しんでいきましょう。 The Dubbing Workshop, which has been running since its inception in August 2017, was able to resume activities on February 7. We have decided to meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 18:00-20:30 in Meeting Room 1 of the University of Guanajuato’s Language School. Some new members joined the Workshop (two Mexican and two Japanese students). There are also seven students who joined last August. I hope the students will enjoy having the opportunity to use Japanese you wouldn’t normally have the chance to.

今月色々なゲームや吹き替えしてみました。 即興ゲーム (あれあれゲームとあれ売るゲーム) 吹き替え(翻訳、アダプテーション、ヴィデオ編集、セリフの読み合わせ)、 今回初日、久しぶりに人数がそろったので、人狼ゲームをしてみました。 一回スペイン語で、一回日本語でやってみました。とても盛り上がって、日本語学科の先生たちまで参加してくださいました。 これからも新しいメンバーが入るためと日本語の勉強を続けるため皆で頑張って面白い吹き替え研究会を作ります。 This month we tried out various games and dubs. On the first day, since it was the first time we had gathered in a while, we did a few improvisation games (“that thing” game and “sell that” game), practiced translating and adapting, editing videos and reading out lines, and we even played “Werewolf”. We played Werewolf once in Spanish and once in Japanese. Everyone got really into the game, and some teachers from the Japanese department even joined in. I want to keep making the Dubbing Workshop fun and interesting for the students so I can both attract new members and motivate current ones to keep studying Japanese. guanajuato190403_1

グアナフアト大学では、次の1月から6月までの学期を始まる前に、12月中旬から1月の中旬か上旬まで冬休みがあります。メキシコで旅行をしたり観光したり、家でのんびりしたりのいいチャンスでございます。 Here at the University of Guanajuato, before the Jan-June semester starts, we have our winter break from mid-December until early/mid-January. This is a good time to travel Mexico, go sightseeing, and relax at home.

いつも通り留学生の皆さんへ歓迎イベントがありました、今回は交換留学の192人がいます。 78人は外国の17つの国(ドイツ、コロンビア、スペイン、中国、アルゼンチン、フランス、韓国、スウェーデン、ペルー、カナダ、ロシア、スウェーデン、チリなど)から。メキシコの他の大学の43学生たちもいます。みんなはこれからそれぞれのグアナフアト大学にある4つキャンパスに勉強します。 This year, there are 192 exchange students, so as always, we held a welcome event for them. 78 of these students come from 17 different countries (including Germany, Colombia, Spain, China, Argentina, France, South Korea, Sweden, Peru, Canada, Russia and Chile, etc.). There are also 43 exchange students from other universities in Mexico. From now on, these students will study at the four campuses of the University of Guanajuato.


来月、新しいメンバーを募集して吹き替え研究会再開する予定です。どんなことを吹き替えするのか、どんな新しいメンバーが入ってくれるのか皆さんは楽しみにしています。 また日本語を勉強しながらいろいろ楽しめると思います。 Next month, I intend to recruit new members and resume the activities of the Dubbing Workshop. I look forward to seeing what kind of people will join our club, and what kind of dubbing projects we will attempt next. I think that we will have a lot of fun while also studying Japanese.

皆さんこんにちは。 グローバルジャパンオフィスのコーディネーターヤイル・イェブラです Hi everyone. It’s Yair Yebra, coordinator of the Global Japan Office.

12初旬に定期試験があり、その後一ヶ月間の冬休みです。色々な留学生がメキシコや海外へ旅行をしたりします。グアナフアト大学の学生のほとんどはグアナファト周辺の都市から勉強をしに来るので、冬休みになると地元に帰って、一方で多くの観光客が来ます。 そして、クリスマスがとても大切なお祝いです。友たちと過ごす人もいますが、基本的に皆は家族と過ごして、24日の夜に夜ご飯を食べたり、プレゼント交換をしたりします。この機会に違う所に住んでいる家族が集まって一緒にお祝いするのが一般的です。 At the beginning of December, exams were held, and the month-long winter break started after that. Many exchange students here are going on vacations around Mexico and other countries. Most students at the University of Guanajuato come from the cities surrounding the region, so they usually go home for the holidays, and are temporarily replaced by an influx of tourists. Christmas is a very important celebration here. Some people spend it with their friends, but most people spend it with their families eating dinner and exchanging presents on the 24th. On this occasion, it is common for families living apart to gather and celebrate together.

また、毎年の12月の第一日曜日には、グアナフアト大学の日本語を勉強している学生たちはメキシコシティへ日本語能力試験を受けに行きます。自分の実力を確かめて、勉強の励みをするための機会です。今年もN5からN1を受けに行った学生がいました。皆さんは一所懸命日本語を勉強しています。今年は私も受けに行きました。 Moving on, every year on the first Sunday of December, students studying Japanese at the University of Guanajuato travel to Mexico City for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). This was a good chance for students to check their abilities and find new motivation for their studies. As in previous years, students went to sit a range of the levels from N5 to N1. Everyone is putting all their efforts into Japanese. I also went to take the test this year.

TUFSの松本幹久さんへのインタビュー / Interview with MATSUMOTO Mikihisa (TUFS)

また東京外国語大学の松本幹久さんにインタビューをしていただきました。 グアナフアトにしている生活や印象について話してくれました。 This month I also interviewed TUFS student Matsumoto Mikihisa. I asked him about his life in and impressions of Guanajuato.

1-自己紹介からお願いします / Please introduce yourself 東京外国語大学国際社会学部国際社会学科スペイン語専攻四年、松本幹久です。 体育会系サッカー部に所属しております My name is MATSUMOTO Mikihisa, and I am a fourth-year Spanish major in the TUFS School of International and Area Studies. I’m a member of the soccer club. 2-留学するためにグアナファト大学を選んだのは何故ですか?/ Why did you choose to study abroad in Mexico? 奨学金がいただけるプログラムがあったことと、先輩の勧めです。 There was a scholarship program, and my upperclassmen recommended it. 3-グアナフアト大学に来て一番良かったことは何ですか / What has been the best thing so far since you came to Mexico? 学生が皆優しく、友達を作りやすいこと。 All the students are kind, so it’s easy to make friends. 4-留学で困ったことがありましたか?/ Have you had any troubles during your exchange? 携帯をなくしたこと、財布をなくしたこと。 I lost my phone and my wallet. 5-日本に帰ったらメキシコやグアナファト大学の何が恋しくなりますか / What will you miss about Mexico and the University of Guanajuato when you return to Japan? 友人たち、彼女 My friends and my girlfriend. 6-東京外国語大学の後輩たちに留学するためにグアナファト大学をお勧めしますか Will you recommend studying abroad at the University of Guanajuato to your lowerclassmen at TUFS? おすすめします。 理由は人々が皆優しく、友達を作りやすいこと。 Yes, I will. The reason for this is that the people here are so nice, so it is easy to fit in.

そして、松本さんは、グアナフアト大学のグアナファト市公式高校で日本語教師の助手としてインターンシップをしました、経験したことについてちょっと話していただきました。 Matsumoto also did an internship at a high school in Guanajuato as an assistant Japanese language teacher, so I talked to him about this experience.

インターンでは、ヤイル先生と共に日本語の授業を現地メキシコの高校に行きました。 基本的にはヤイル先生の手伝いという形で、日本語ネイティブによる発音教授、漢字・平仮名・片仮名の手直し、テスト作成・採点などをしていました。 インターンで学んだことは大きく二つあります。 一つは、教育の難しさです。一定数の生徒が日本語の授業を強制で受けており、彼らに日本語の勉強の動機付けをするのは難しい事でした。授業内でゲームを取り入れる、また日本の楽曲を用いるなどして工夫を凝らした授業をするよう心がけていました。 二つ目は、日本語という言語の難解さ、そして素晴らしさです。 抽象的な言葉の説明を求められた時、また、てにをはなどの副詞の絶妙なニュアンスを問われた時が非常に回答に困りました。そこにはネイティブ教師としての責任が伴うからです。 と同時にそれは、抽象的な言葉を、それにぴったり合う単語で表し切る日本語の素晴らしさを感じる瞬間でもありました。 “At my internship, I went to a Mexican high school to assist Professor Yair in her Japanese class. Most of the time I acted as assistant to Professor Yair, but I also taught pronunciation, fixed the students’ kanji/hiragana/katakana names, and made and marked tests. I learnt two big things from my internship. The first is the difficulty of education. It was hard to motivate a class of a fixed number of students who were being made to study Japanese. I tried my best to do so by incorporating games and Japanese songs into the classes. The second thing I learnt was the difficulty and beauty of the Japanese language. When students asked me to explain things such as abstract words, or the nuances of particles such as “te” “ni” “wo” and “wa”, I found it very hard to answer them. This is one of the responsibilities of a native Japanese teacher. At the same time, I found it amazing how Japanese has enough vocabulary to express the exact nuances of abstract words.

皆さんこんにちは。 グローバルジャパンオフィスグアナファトのコーディネーターヤイル・イェブラです 今回はメキシコの代表的な・お祭り/お祝い・死者の日について、皆様にお話しをしたいと思います Hello everyone. This is Yair Yebra of the Guanajuato GJO. This month, I want to talk about the festival most representative of Mexico, the Day of the Dead.

メキシコには毎年の十一月の一日と二日に死者の日をお祝いしています。 一日に子供たちを祝いして、二日に全ての死者をお祝いされております。 Every year in Mexico, the Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1 and 2. On the 1st, we celebrate children who have died, and on the 2nd we celebrate all the dead.

皆様はディズニー映画の「ココ」を見たことがありますか?もし見たことがあれば想像しやすいと思います。メキシコの家族たちは亡くなってしまった親戚や友達をお祝いするためにこの時期に祭壇を作って、その大切な人に差し上げます。 その目的として、死者はこの世に戻って家族とまた少しの時間を過ごすことができるとも言われています。また、その人々のことを尊重しながら偲ぶためでもあると言われています。 グアナフアト大学では毎年メキシコの歴史上の誰かに大きい祭壇を立てます。 本当に素晴らしいです。 来年は日本の歴史上の誰かに祭壇を作ってみるといいかもしれません。 Have you all seen the movie “Coco”? If you have, then it’s easy to imagine what this festival is like. During the Day of the Dead, Mexican families celebrate the memory of their deceased relatives and friends by creating altars to them. It is said that through this the deceased can come back and spend a little time with their families. It is also said that this holiday is a time to show respect to your ancestors by remembering them. Every year, the University of Guanajuato builds a giant altar dedicated to a prominent figure in history. It really is a great sight to see. Next year, it might be good to build an altar for a prominent figure of Japanese history.

TUFSの三戸部祐樹さんへのインタビュー / Interview with MITOBE Yuuki (TUFS)

東京外国語大学の三戸部祐樹さんにインタビューをしました。 グアナフアトにおける生活や印象について話してくれました。 I also interviewed TUFS student Mitobe Yuuki. I asked him about his life in and impressions of Guanajuato.

1-自己紹介からお願いします / Please introduce yourself 東京外国語大学、言語文化学部3年の三戸部祐樹です。 My name is Mitobe Yuuki, I’m a third-year student in the TUFS School of Language and Culture Studies.

2-留学するためにグアナファト大学を選んだのは何故ですか?/ Why did you choose to study abroad in Mexico? 何か変わったところが良いと思いメキシコにしました。グアナファトは治安がよく、景色も綺麗だったので。でも申し込みの直前までとても迷っていました。 Mexico seemed like a really interesting and different place to me. Guanajuato is safe, and the scenery is beautiful. However, I was having trouble deciding where to go right up until I applied.

3-グアナフアト大学に来て一番良かったことは何ですか / What has been the best thing so far since you came to Mexico? メキシコ人に会えたのはもちろんのこと、スペイン語を勉強する様々な国の人に出会えたことです。 Meeting Mexican people, of course, and meeting many people studying Spanish from all around the world.

4-留学で困ったことがありましたか?/ Have you had any troubles during your exchange? 特にないです。 Nothing in particular.

5-日本に帰ったらメキシコやグアナファト大学の何が恋しくなりますか / What will you miss about Mexico and the University of Guanajuato when you return to Japan? まったりしてる感じですね。日本はせかせかしすぎだと思うので。 The laidback lifestyle. I think Japan is too restless.

6-東京外国語大学の後輩たちに留学するためにグアナファト大学をお勧めしますか / Will you recommend studying abroad at the University of Guanajuato to your lowerclassmen at TUFS? 強くおすすめします。日本人に対して抵抗感がなくて、過ごしやすい場所です。 I would strongly recommend. There’s no aversion to Japanese people here, so It’s an easy place to live.

この学期のクラスは今月に終わりまして、学期末のためスペイン語コースの皆さんはパーティーをして、ピニャータをしました。 皆はとても楽しんでいました。 しかし、12月の3日~7日までまだ試験がありますから、グアナフアト大学生の皆さんはまだ必死に頑張っています。 Classes for this semester ended this month, so everyone in the Spanish course had a party and broke a piñata. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. However, there will be exams from December 3-7, so all the students here are still studying hard.

PUREZEN MEXICO 近年メキシコ、特に中部地方では日本企業進出に伴い、学習者に求められる日本語能力が多様化しつつあります。そうした中で、「日本語の学習成果を個人で完結することなく、学習者同士で協力しあえる場を提供したい」「デザイン力、発想力、構成力、専門知識など、それぞれが持っている様々な能力と日本語技能を組み合わせた発表の機会を作ろう」という考えを基に、昨年Purezen México第1回大会が開催されました。そして今年は「メキシコの観光」をテーマに3つのカテゴリー/レベルに分かれ、12チーム27名が参加しました。 Recently, particularly in central regions of Mexico, the kind of Japanese proficiency expected from learners is diversifying as more Japanese companies enter the Mexican market. Because of this, and based on ideas such as “I want to provide a place where learners can cooperate with each other instead of completing their Japanese learning individually” and “let’s make an opportunity for learners to present their Japanese skills and their other skills, such as design, imagination and composition skills, and expertise”, the first “Purezen México” was held last year. This year, 27 contestants competed in 12 teams across 3 categories to the topic of “Mexican Tourism”.

この地域に住む日本人の方にとっては現地で育ったメキシコ人が語る観光情報を日本語で得ることのできる、素晴らしい機会になりました。 皆さんの発表は素晴らしかったです。発表者たちは、メキシコに住んでいる日本人の皆様だけではなく、メキシコ人にも知らないメキシコを紹介がありました。 This was a very good chance for Japanese people living in Mexico to gain information on local tourism in Japanese from people who were raised here. Everyone’s presentations were very good. On top of introducing unknown aspects of Mexico to Japanese people living here, they also introduced parts of Mexico that even Mexican people don’t know.

また、毎年の10月にグアナファトに行われるセルバンティーノの舞台芸術国際フェスティバルが今年もありました、今年はスペシャル・ゲストでインドとメキシコのアグアスカリエンテス州の参加がありました。 このフェスティバルには、毎年世界中の観光者が来ています、もちろん、日本もそうです。 世界中クオリティ高いイベントが多く、今回私がみたイベントの中に日本の矢内原美邦さんの【静かな日】がありました。日本劇における魅力を観賞でまして大満足です。 来年のセルバンティーノも期待しています。 The International Cervantino Festival, a performing arts festival held every year in October, was also held this month. This year, India and Aguascalientes (Mexico) participated as special guests. This festival attracts tourist from all over the world, including Japan. There were many top-tier acts from around the world, one act I watched was YANAIHARA Mikuni’s play, “A Quiet Day”. I was really satisfied to have been able to see the beauty of a Japanese play. I look forward to next year’s Cervantino.

東京外国語大学のブースで、グアナフアト大学の学生たちにTUFSへ留学するように様々な情報を提供しました日本に興味がある沢山の学生たちが来て、日本での生活とか留学するために必要なものについて話しました。その学生たちは今度東京外国語大学に留学するかもしれません。また、東京外国語大学を紹介するためのプレゼンテーションもあり、東京外国語大学の特徴や日本で留学するための経験や特徴についても話しました。 Many students interested in Japan visited the TUFS booth looking for information on exchange programs, and talked with the booth coordinator about life in Japan and the preparations necessary for study abroad in Japan. Perhaps these students will go on exchange to TUFS. There was also a presentation on TUFS, in which the booth coordinator introduced the university, and talked about the experiences and benefits of studying abroad in Japan.

ところで、吹き替え研究会の皆さんは積極的に日本語とスペイン語を磨いております。今度、出来上がった吹き替えを皆様に紹介したいと思っています。 Also, the Dubbing Workshop has been actively working on polishing their Japanese and Spanish. Next time I want to show you all their latest project.

グアナフアト大学では、六月から八月の7日まで夏休みでしたが、八月になったらだんだん学生が外からグアナフアトシティーに戻ってきました、もちろん、日本といろいろの国の留学生もたくさん来ました。各セメスターの皆さんへの歓迎イベントがありました。学生たちは自分の文化の発表をしたり、グアナフアト大学の学長の挨拶の言葉を聞いたり、メキシコ料理を食べたりしました。留学生のみんなはこれからそれぞれの4つキャンパスで勉強します。 While it has been summer vacation here at the University of Guanajuato from June until August 7, the students started returning in August, and many exchange students, from both Japan and other countries, also came. A welcome event was held for everyone starting in the new semester. The students gave presentations on their own cultures, the president of the university gave a speech, and everyone ate Mexican food together. From now on, the exchange students will study at the university’s four campuses.

また吹き替え研究会を再開しました、この長い期間で、たくさんの吹き替えをやったり、日本語/スペイン語でゲームをしたりしてきましたので、他人に教えられる先輩たちもいます。 これからもみんな楽しみです。 The Dubbing Workshop resumed activities, and many students spent the long break producing their own dubs and playing games in Japanese and Spanish, so they are ready to teach any new members. We are all looking forward to our activities this semester.

今回は吹き替え研究会でやっている”あれあれゲーム“を紹介したいと思います。 まずはAさんとBさんを選びます。 I want to introduce a game we have been playing at the Dubbing Workshop called “that thing”.

Aさんは具体的なものを考え 【例:自分の携帯電話】 Bさんも具体的なものを考え 【例:魚】 それから、相手が同じことについて考えていると思いながら会話し始める。 もちろん、ここからの会話はおかしくなります。 First, you choose an A and a B. A thinks of a specific item (i.e. a cellphone) B also thinks of a specific item (i.e. a salmon) A and B then start talking about their items, assuming the other is referring to the same item. From here, of course, the conversation becomes confusing and hilarious.

例: A:あ!いけない、今日家で忘れた。 B:ええ?もってくるの? A:うん、普通に持って来るよ?Bさんもそうでしょう? B:いや、学校にさすがに持ってこないな。食べるまでに冷蔵庫に… Example: A: Ah! Oh no, I left it at home. B: What, you were going to bring it? A: Yeah, you usually bring it with you? Don’t you do that B? B: No, I wouldn’t bring it to school. I just leave it in the fridge until I eat it…

話していない人がそれを見て、なんについて話しているのか当ててみます。 誰か両方のものを当てたら終了となります このゲームの目的は日本語/スペイン語を話させることです。間違えがあっても、知っている日本語/スペイン語を使って、伝えたい案を伝えることです。 The other players, who are not A or B, then try to guess what each person is talking about. Once someone guesses both items, the game ends. The aim of this game is to practice using Japanese or Spanish. Through this, students can learn to communicate their ideas in either language, even if they make mistakes.

グアナフアト大学では、六月から八月の7日まで夏休みです。メキシコで旅行をしたり観光したり、家でのんびりしたりのいいチャンスです。 Here at the University of Guanajuato, the summer vacation lasts from June until August 7. It is a good chance to travel around Mexico, go sightseeing and relax at home.

グアナフアト大学で勉強している学生たちはほとんど別のところから勉強しに来ているので、学生たちは故郷に帰ってしまい、町の雰囲気がどんどん変わってきます、学生の代わりに観光客がたくさんいます。 Most of the students studying here come from other places, so everyone goes home, the whole vibe of the city changes, and the students are replaced in the meantime by tourists.

去年と同じく7月 31 日にDia de la Cuevaが行われたので、新しい留学生たちと一緒に行きました。 Just as last year, Dia de la Cueva (Cave Day) was held on July 31, so I went with the new exchange students.

グアナグアトで年1回しか行われない”Dia de la Cueva”という特別な日です。 クリスト教の伝統的なグアナフアトでしかないパーティーです。Bufa という坂を登って町の良い李景色を見ることができます。 ブファという坂を登って良い景色が見えるグアナフアトで一番大切なパーティーかもしれない。 La Bufa はいつでも登ることができますがその日だけ食べ物や色々な物も売っているし、人がいっぱいいます。まるでお祭りのようです 今年も同じことでした。皆さん疲れましたがとても楽しみました。 Dia de la Cueva is a special day that happens once a year in Guanajuato. It is a party that only happens in the traditionally Christian Guanajuato. On this day, people climb the Bufa hills and look out over the scenery of the city. It might even be the most important party of the year for Guanajuato. While you’re allowed to climb Bufa at any time of year, this is the only day where people sell food and various goods in the hills, and there is always a big turnout. It is just like a festival.

さて、今回はグアナフアト大学に留学しているTUFSの学生を紹介したいと思います This month I also interviewed another TUFS students on exchange at the University of Guanajuato.

1.自己紹介からお願いします / Please introduce yourself 国際社会学部 スペイン語科 3年生の久家東(くげはるひ)と申します。2年生の冬学期から留学を開始しました。 My name is KUGE Haruhi, I am a third-year student in the Spanish department of the School of International and Area Studies. I started my exchange here in the winter quarter of my second year. 2.留学するためにメキシコを選んだのは何故ですか?/ Why did you choose to study abroad in Mexico? 1年生の冬学期に、ショートビジットとしてメキシコに一ヶ月間留学したのですが、そこで気候や人柄、食事などが自分に合っていると感じたからです。また、グアナファトでならば、過度に治安に敏感になることなく、勉学に励めると思ったからです。 I came to Mexico for a one-month short visit in the winter quarter of my first year, during which I felt that the food, temperature and people all suited me. Also, since it’s Guanajuato, you don’t have to worry too much about public safety, so I felt it would be a good place to endeavor in my studies. 3.メキシコに来て一番良かったことは何ですか / What has been the best thing so far since you came to Mexico? 観光や品質管理など、東京外国語大学ではなかなか学べない学問を学べたことです。 Probably the sightseeing and quality control. I’ve also been able to study some disciplines they don’t offer at TUFS. 4.留学で困ったことがありましたか?/ Have you had any troubles during your exchange? 特になし Not particularly. 5.日本に帰ったらメキシコの何が恋しくなりますか / What will you miss about Mexico when you return to Japan? 主に人と果物。 Mostly the people and fruit. 6.東京外国語大学の後輩たちに留学するためにメキシコのグアナファト大学をお勧めしますか Will you recommend studying abroad at the University of Guanajuato to your lowerclassmen at TUFS? します。基本的に日本人に友好的であるため、あまりストレスを感じることなく学習ができると思います。 I will. Everyone here is generally friendly towards Japanese people, so you can study without feeling too much stress.

グアナフアト大学では、六月から八月の7日まで夏休みです。メキシコで旅行をしたり観光したり、家でのんびりしたりのいいチャンスでございます。 グアナフアト大学で勉強している学生たちはほとんど別のところから勉強しに来ているのでので、皆の学生たちは故郷に帰って、町の雰囲気がどんどん変わって、学生の代わりに観光客がたくさんいます。 Here at the University of Guanajuato, summer vacation lasts from June until August 7. It’s a good chance to travel around Mexico and do some sightseeing, or to just relax around the house. Most of the students studying here come from other places, so everyone goes home, the whole vibe of the city changes, and the students are replaced in the meantime by tourists.

またグアナフアト州サルバティラ市で9月からTUFSへ行くグアナフアト大学生たちと日本の文化、治安、値段とTUFSのプログラムやLa-Cepも紹介しました。 In other news, a group of students going to TUFS in September and I taught students in Salvatierra, Guanajuato, about Japanese culture, politics and prices, and TUFS programs such as La-Cep.

今回はグアナフアト大学で留学しているTUFSの学生を紹介したいと思います I also interviewed one TUFS student who is on exchange here at the University of Guanajuato.

  1. 自己紹介からお願いします / Please introduce yourself 東京外国語大学国際社会学部スペイン語専攻四年の松本幹久と申します。体育会サッカー部に所属しております。ゼミは今福龍太先生の文化人類学のゼミに入っております。 My name is MATSUMOTO Mikihisa, and I am a fourth-year Spanish major in the TUFS School of International and Area Studies. I’m a member of the soccer club. I’m a student of Professor IMAFUKU Ryuta’s cultural anthropology seminar.
  2. 留学するためにメキシコを選んだのは何故ですか?/ Why did you choose to study abroad in Mexico? メキシコを留学先に選んだ理由は三つあります。一つ目は世界展開力強化事業という取り組みの中で、返済不要の奨学金を頂けたからです。二つ目は、スペインに一度旅行した経験があり、スペイン語の文法や国の文化などの違いをメキシコに行くことでみてみたかったからです。三つ目は、部活の先輩に強く勧められ、また、お話を伺う中で行ってみたいという気持ちがより強くなったためです。 I have three reasons for choosing to study in Mexico. One, under the Inter-University Exchange Project, I was able to get a scholarship, which helped a lot. Two, I have been to Spain once on holiday, and wanted to see the cultural and linguistic differences between Spain and Mexico. And three, the upperclassmen in the soccer club strongly recommended Mexico, and after hearing their stories I really wanted to come here.
  3. メキシコに来て一番良かったことは何ですか / What has been the best thing so far since you came to Mexico? メキシコに来て最もよかったことは、人々の温かさです。初対面でもすぐに仲良くなれてしまう独特な雰囲気がとてもすきになりました。 The best thing about Mexico so far is the warmth of the people. I’ve really come to like this unique atmosphere where you can become friends right away.
  4. 留学で困ったことがありましたか? Have you had any troubles during your exchange? 留学で困ったことは今のところ特にありません。家を変えるために家探しをする時が強いていえば少し大変でしたが、メキシコ人の友人の助けを借り、なんとか見つけることが出来ました。 I haven’t had any troubles during my exchange so far. It was a little stressful when I had to move houses and find new accommodation, but with the help of my Mexican friends I was able to find something.
  5. 日本に帰ったらメキシコの何が恋しくなりますか What will you miss about Mexico when you return to Japan? 日本に帰ったらなにが恋しくなるか、はまだなんとも言えませんが、おそらくレゲトンとパーティが恋しくなると思います。お酒を飲んでレゲトンに合わせて踊るようなパーティは、日本ではないと思うからです。 While I’m not yet quite sure what I’ll miss when I go back to Japan, it will most probably the reggaeton music and parties. This is because there are not many parties in Japan where you can drink and dance to reggaeton.
  6. 東京外国語大学の後輩たちに留学するためにメキシコをグアナフアト大学をお勧めしますか Will you recommend studying abroad at the University of Guanajuato to your lowerclassmen at TUFS? はい、おすすめしたいです。 ここは学生が多い街で友達も作りやすいですし、メキシコ人だけでなく外国からも多く留学生が訪れていて、彼らとのパーティや小旅行はきっと楽しく感じられると思います。 また、グアナフアト内であればほとんどの場所に歩いて行けるので、他の大きな都市に比べて移動費がかからないのも魅力のひとつです。 最後に鮮やかに彩られた街並みも必見です。 Yes I want to. Guanajuato is a student city, so it’s very easy to make friends with both Mexican students and exchange students from all over the world, and I think they would enjoy the parties and trips you can experience with them. Also, you can walk almost anywhere in Guanajuato, so it is a lot cheaper to move around in than other large cities. Lastly, I also think they should see the vibrant cityscape.

5月の活動報告やグアナファトに行いました面白いことを紹介いたします。 This month I will report on the activities and interesting occurrences in Guanajuato this May.

メキシコには五月は記念日など色々ある一か月です、 1日は仕事の日業者を祝いする日で休みの日になっています。 5日はLa batalla de puebla(ラ・バタヤ・デ・プエブラ)1862年の四月にヴェラクルスでフランスに軍隊が上陸して、メキシコの中央へ向かいました。様々な戦いの後で1862年の5月五日いわばシンコ・デ・マヨにフランス軍隊に勝って撃退させることができました。面白いことですが、世界中にシンコ・デ・マヨを祝いされていますがメキシコに他の記念日でよくお祝いしません。日本にもいろいろなところでお祝いされています。 メキシコ料理を作ったり、メキシコ的な歌を歌ったりできます。東京にも毎年お祝いされています。http://www.cincodemayo.jp/ In Mexico, May is a month full of holidays. May 1 is Labor Day, a holiday for workers. On May 5, in 1862, the Battle of Puebla took place after the French Army landed in Veracruz in April and headed for Mexico. On this day, which was thereon called Cinco de Mayo, Mexico won against the French after many battles and repelled their forces. It’s funny how Cinco de Mayo is celebrated all around the world, but it’s a different kind of day in Mexico so people here don’t really celebrate it. Cinco de Mayo is even celebrated in a few places in Japan. At these celebrations you can eat Mexican food and sing Mexican songs. 10日母の日、日付が異なりますが日本と同じです。 15日先生の日先たちをお祝いする日、公式的に決まってないけれど毎年授業が中止となります。 23日、学生の日、学生たちをお祝いする日、公式的に決まってないけれど毎年授業が中止となれるかも知れません。 この年は正午から大学の授業が中止となりました。 May 10 is Mother’s Day, the same as Japan. May 15 is Teacher’s Day, and while it is not compulsory to do so, classes on this day are cancelled. May 23 is Students’ Day, and while it is also not compulsory to do so, classes on this day are sometimes cancelled. This year, afternoon classes were cancelled.

吹替え研究もありました! 今月も主に先月から始まった鋼の錬金術師のシーンで日本語を練習していました。 お祝い日で中止となりました日は多かったけれど来月この吹き替えを終わる予定です。春学期すでに終わりましたけれど、来月皆さんに見せられるように吹き替え研究会の皆はもうちょっと頑張ります。 We also held the Dubbing Workshop this month! This month we mostly continued practicing Japanese from scenes of Fullmetal Alchemist, which we started last month. Many of our meetings were cancelled due to public holidays, but we plan to finish this particular dub next month. The spring semester is already over, but everyone here at the workshop will keep working hard to show you the final product next month.

4月の活動報告やグアナファトに行いました面白いことを紹介いたします。/ For April’s activities report, I will talk about the interesting things that happened in Guanajuato this month. まずはSemana de Pascua (セマナ・デ・パスクア) がありました。/ First, there was Semana de Pascua. セマナ サンタ(イースター)とセマナ・デ・パスクアはイエス・キリストの死を記念して祝う期間で、国内で最も伝統的な祭日です。/ Semana Santa (holy week) and Semana de Pascua (Easter) are traditional holidays in Mexico where the death of Jesus Christ is commemorated. メキシコには8400万人を超えるカトリック教徒がいますが、これはメキシコの総人口の82.9%に当たるため、メキシコ人にとってこの行事は大変重要であるといえます。/ There are 84,000,000 Catholic people in Mexico, which is 82.9% of the country’s population, and so it can be said that these are very important holidays for Mexican people. そのため、毎年このセマナサンタとセマナ・デ・パスクアの期間は学校が休みになります。3月26日から4月9日までの2週間です(セマナ・デ・パスクアは二週間目です)。休暇を取る企業もあるため、メキシコ人の家族はこの機会に旅行に行ったり、ゆっくり休んだりします。この期間、メキシコのビーチはとても混みます。/ Because of this, schools in Mexico close during the Semana Santa and Semana de Pascua periods. It is a two week break from March 26th until April 9th (Semana de Pascua occurs in the second week). Because many companies also observe this holiday, Mexicans use this time to go on family vacations and relax. During this break, Mexico’s beaches get very crowded. この期間に行われる行事は珍しいため、メキシコのカトリック教について学ぶいいチャンスだと、訪れる観光客もいます。/ Since the events held in these periods are quite unique, it is a good chance to learn about Mexican Catholicism, and so many tourists visit Mexico during this time.

また、私は日本語を教えているグアナフアト大学のグアナファト高校にグアナフアト大学で留学している東京外国語大学の久家東さんが遊びに来てくれました。学生たちと日本語で話をしたり、人狼ゲームをしました。とても楽しい機会でした。また遊びに来てくれる日を学生たちは楽しみにしています。/ In other news, Haruhi Kuge, a TUFS student on exchange at the University of Guanajuato, visited the high school I teach Japanese at. Kuge talked to the students in Japanese, and played a game of “Werewolf” with them. It was a very enjoyable opportunity. The students are looking forward to Kuge visiting again.

吹替え研究もありました!/ We also had a dubbing workshop this month!

今月は主に先月から始まった鋼の錬金術師のシーンで日本語を練習しています。先月はこの日本のアニメーションから一つのシーンを選んで、皆で一緒にセリフを聞いて入力しました。難しい言葉が色々出てきましたけれど遂に終わりました。今月はキャストを決めましたが、セリフができたら役を交換することを決めました。メキシコ人は日本語で練習していました。まだまだ上手く言えないセリフがたくさんありますが、5月にこの吹き替えを終わるつもりです。/ This month we mostly continued what we started last month, practicing Japanese through scenes of Fullmetal Alchemist. Last month the students picked a scene from a Japanese animation, listened to the dialogue, and then dubbed it. A lot of difficult words came up in the scene, but we finished eventually. This month we decided on the cast, but the students decided they wanted to swap roles after each line they dubbed. The Mexican students practiced their lines in Japanese. There are still a lot of words they can’t pronounce well, but I still intend to close this workshop in May.

3月にグアナファトで色々なイベントがあります。/ There are many events held in March in Guanajuato. その一つはラリー WRC(World Rally Championship)/ One such event is the WRC (World Rally Championship) Rally.

メキシコで初めてWRCが開催されたのは2004年。ラリーはWRCの中では比較的歴史が浅いイベントだが、その人気は非常に高く、今やWRCになくてはならぬ1戦である。ラリーの中心となるのは、メキシコ中央部グアナファト州のレオン市。/ The WRC was first held in Mexico in 2004. Compared to other WRC events, the Rally does not have a very long history, but has become a very popular event, and an irreplaceable part of the WRC. The Rally runs through the middle of Mexico, including through León, Guanajuato.


その二つは花の日 / Another event in March is the Day of the Flowers. セマナサンタ(キリスト教にある復活祭)の始まりを告げるこの「花の日」 実はここグアナフアトだけの祝日です、グアナフアトの街だけのお祭り。/ The Day of the Flowers marks the beginning of Holy Week (the week before Easter observed in Christianity), and is actually a holiday and festival that is only celebrated in Guanajuato.

吹替え研究はだんだんリズム上がって行きます!/ The Dubbing Workshop is going strong!

今月は主に二つの吹き替えに中心しました、その一つは31 MINUTOS (31分)というチリのニュース番組ですが、すべての登場人物は人形であり、本当のニュースではありません。この番組から一つのシーンを選んで、日本語に訳しました。2月にスペイン語でやってみたけれど、今度の吹き替えは日本語まで訳したセリフでやってみましょう。/ This month we focused on two dubbings, one of which was 31 MINUTOS (31 Minutes) a fake news program where all the guests are dolls. Students picked one scene from this show and translated it into Japanese. We tried doing Spanish in February, but this time I thought we ought to do it with the Japanese lines we translated.

二つ目、鋼の錬金術師のシーン:この日本のアニメーションから一つのシーンを選んで、皆で一緒にセリフを聞いて入力しました。難しい言葉が色々出てきましたけれど遂に終わりました。今度はキャストを決めてメキシコ人が日本語で吹き替えやってみます。/ The second dubbing we did was a scene from Fullmetal Alchemist. Students chose a scene, and then everyone listened and typed out the words. Many new words came out of this, but the students were able to finish the task. Next time we will decide the cast, and the Mexican students will dub it in Japanese.


そして、またセマナサンタの前に日本語でカラオケをやってみました!日本のJOYSOUNDソフトでやりましたので日本のカラオケの経験と中々近かったです。段々メンバーも増えてきます。/ Before Holy Week, I also held another karaoke session. We used the Japanese JOYSOUND software, so it was just like doing karaoke in Japan. More students are starting to come to these sessions.

8月から始まりました。吹き替え研究会を2月の12日(火)に再開することができました。グアナファト大学の言語学校の会議室1、毎週の火曜日と木曜日の18:00から20:30までになりました。/ On Tuesday the 12th of February, the Dubbing Workshop, which was started last August, started again. Our meetings will be held from 18:00-20:30 every Tuesday and Thursday in the first meeting room of the language school at the University of Guanajuato. 新しいメンバーは4人入りました、二人のメキシコ人と二人の日本人。8月から入っている先輩たちも6人います。この6人は先輩になりましたのでその責任を体験することができるでしょう?/ Four new members joined, two Mexican students and two Japanese students. There are also the six students who joined last August. Now that these six students are the ‘senpai’ (upperclassmen) of the workshop, will they feel more responsible I wonder?

また、TUFSへ8月から留学できるようにグアナフアト大学の学生たちは申し込んでいますから、グアナフアト大学の学生たちの二人が来学期からTUFSへ勉強をしに行きます。/ Also, students here are beginning to apply to go on exchange to TUFS in August, so two University of Guanajuato students will go to TUFS next semester.

今月にも創価大学の15人ぐらいの学生たちが勉強をしに来ました、この学生たちと一緒にSan Miguel Allendeへ行くことができまして、皆で一緒に観光することができました、とても楽しくて、きれいな町でした。料理もおいしかったです。TUFSの学生たちの二人もスペイン語1か月コースを受けに来ました、メキシコやグアナフアトを色々楽しんでくれました、その一人がアンケートを答えてくれましたので、今回それも皆さんに紹介したいと思います!/ This month, about 15 students from Soka University came to study at Guanajuato, and I was able to visit San Miguel Allende with them. We did sightseeing as a group, which was very fun, and the city was beautiful. The food was also beautiful. Two students from TUFS also came to take a one month Spanish course. These two students spent their time enjoying the many places of Guanajuato and Mexico, and I got them to answer a questionnaire, so I want to share this with you below.

留学するためにメキシコを選んだのは何故ですか? / Why did you choose to come on exchange to Mexico? ヨーロッパ圏は少し怖いなというのと、メキシコに行った友達が勧めてきたから。/ Going to Europe is a little bit scary, and a friend who went to Mexico recommended it to me.

メキシコに来て一番良かったことは何ですか/ What’s been the best thing you’ve experienced since coming to Mexico? 沢山あって決められないです。美味しい食べ物、素敵な人、場所に溢れた場所だなと思います。/ There’s so many I can’t choose. The delicious food, the lovely people and the number of places you can go.

留学で困ったことがありましたか?/ Have you had any problems during your exchange? 特にありません。/ No, not particularly.

日本に帰ったらメキシコの何が恋しくなりますか/ When you return to Japan, what will you miss the most? メキシコ料理/ Mexican food.

グアナフアト大学では、12月の中から1月の中旬か上旬まで冬休みがあります。メキシコで旅行をしたり観光したり、家でのんびりしたりのいいチャンスです。 / Here at Guanajuato University, winter vacation is from mid-December until mid-January. It’s a good chance to go on trips around Mexico, do sightseeing, and relax at home. この冬休みのあと1月-6月学期がはじまります。 / After this vacation, the January-June semester begins. 今年もいっぱい交換留学生と私費留学生がありました。もちろん日本の留学生も東京外国語大学の留学生も来てくれました。 / There are many scholarship and privately-funded exchange students this year. Of course, this includes Japanese exchange students and TUFS exchange students.

今月は留学生の皆さんに歓迎イベントがありました。今回は交換留学の192人がいます。 / This month, a welcome event was held for exchange students. This year there are 192 exchange students. 132人は外国の43つの国(ドイツ、コロンビア、スペイン、中国、アルゼンチン、フランス、韓国、スウェーデン、ペルー、カナダ、ロシア、スウェーデン、チリなど)からと、メキシコ人の60人もいます。みなさんは、これからそれぞれ4つのキャンパスで勉強します。 / 132 of these are from 43 foreign countries (including Germany, Colombia, Spain, China, Argentina, France, South Korea, Sweden, Peru, Canada, Russia and Chile), and there are 60 exchange students from other parts of Mexico. All of the students will study at one of the four campuses of the university.


東京外国語大学の学生3人は、グアナフアト大学で留学をしています、その一人は私費留学で、今月着いた二人は交換留学生です。着いたばっかりなのにもう友達を作ったらしいです。今度この学生たちを紹介したいと思います。 / There are three students from TUFS on exchange at Guanajuato University. One student is privately-funded, and the two who have just arrived are scholarship exchange students. Even though they have only just arrived it seems they have made friends already. I think I’d like to introduce these students in my next report.

今月も吹き替え研究会の会議がありました。会議としてはとても楽しかったです。食べ放題ピザ屋でいっぱい食べながらいろいろな話をしました。最後に吹き替え研究会につきまして色々なことを決めて解散しました。みんなさんはこれから部活の先輩になりましたね。 / A meeting for the Dubbing Workshop was also held this month. It was a very fun meeting. We ate at a pizza buffet and talked about a lot of things. At the end of the meeting we decided a few matters regarding the Dubbing Workshop, and then went home. All the students have become the senpai of the club now. もう日本のサークルのイメージと近いなとその時に思いました。 / I felt like the Workshop has become very similar to the image I have of university circles in Japan. 二月には新しいメンバーを募集して吹き替え研究会を再開します! / In February we will look for new members and start club activities again!

また日本語を勉強しながらいろいろ楽しめると思います。 / I want to enjoy this year, and continue studying Japanese.

グアナフアト大学では、12月の初旬で定期試験がありますが、その後一か月くらいで冬休みです。メキシコで旅行をしたり観光したり、家でのんびりしたりのいいチャンスです。 グアナフアト大学で勉強している学生たちはほとんど別のところから勉強をしにくるのでクリスマスやニューイヤーを家族と一緒にいるため皆は地元に帰って町の雰囲気どんどん変わってきます。学生の代わりに観光客がたくさんいます。 一月にはまた皆学校に戻ってシティーの雰囲気変わってきます。また新しい日本人留学生が来ますので楽しみにしています。もちろん東京外国語大学の学生も来るようです。今回は二人が来るようです。/At the University of Guanajuato we have exams in the beginning of December, but about a month after that winter vacation begins. This is a good chance to go travelling or sightseeing in Mexico, or to spend time relaxing at home. Most of the students at University of Guanajuato come from somewhere else, so they go home to their families during Christmas and New Year’s. The atmosphere of the city changes drastically, as there are more tourists than students. In January everyone goes back to school and the atmosphere changes again. We are looking forward to having new international students from Japan. We have heard that there will of course be students coming from TUFS as well; specifically there will be two TUFS students coming.

また毎年の12月にメキシコシティーで日本語の能力試験が行われますし、毎年日本語を勉強しいる学生たちは皆で一緒にその試験を受けに行きます、大変でしたけれど皆さんは頑張って積極的に試験を受けました。今年はN5からN1までを受けた学生たちがいました。/Every December the JLPT is held in Mexico City, and every year students studying Japanese go there to take the exam. It took a lot of work but everyone devoted their best efforts to passing the test. This year there were students taking the test in levels N5 to N1.

皆さんこんにちは。 グローバルジャパンオフィスグアナフアトのコーディネーターヤイル・イェブラです。 11月に行った面白いことについて話したいと思います!/Hello everyone, I am Yair Yebra, a coordinator at GJO Guanajuato. I would like to talk about the interesting things that we did in November.

吹き替え研究会/Dubbing Workshop

8月に開会された “吹き替え研究会”の活動を続けました。 この吹き替え研究会では、日本語/スペイン語だけではなく、吹き替えのやり方や演技も学んでいるので皆さんいつも楽しみにしています。 吹き替え研究会を始める前にはいつも発声練習をしています。日本の演劇で人気の発声練習をやっています。/We continued the “Dubbing Workshop” which was started in August. In the Dubbing Workshop not only do students learn Japanese and Spanish, but they also learn how to do dubbing and how to act, so everyone is always looking forward to this. Before starting our Dubbing Workshop, we always do vocal exercises; specifically we do vocal exercises that are popular in Japanese theater.

11月のGJOの吹き替え研究会では、“La vida en la máquina” (機械に生まれた生命) というお芝居の中でその一つの吹き替えを発表しました。 また、「シュタインズ・ゲート」という日本アニメのシーンを日本語からスペイン語に翻訳して、吹き替えしました。写真は、このシーンです。/During the November Dubbing Workshop at GJO, we performed a dubbing of the play “La vida en la máquina” (Life in the Machine). Also we translated a scene from a Japanese anime called “Stein’s Gate” into Spanish and dubbed it. This photo shows the particular scene which we worked on. Guana171228_1 そのシーンで、主人公の岡辺倫太郎は有名なサイエンティストの女の子と会いますが、主人公はいつも“中二病“で話しているところがとても面白いシーンです。このシーンを通訳や演技することにより、日本における”中二病“現象も勉強できました。皆にとても勉強になりました。/In this scene the protagonist Rintaro Okabe meets a girl who is a famous scientist. It is a humorous scene in which Rintaro is talking as if he is suffering from “Chuunibyou”. By interpreting and acting out this scene, we were able to gain an understanding of the “Chuunibyou” phenomenon in Japan. Everyone learned a lot from this experience. このお芝居ではプログラマーはゲームを作るためにコンピューターの中でエボルシオンのシミュレーションを実行しますが、そのエボルシオンのどこかで生まれた”生物“は意識を持ってリアリティの限界はどこにあるのかを考えさせるお芝居です。/In the play a programmer initiates a simulation of evolution as part of the process of creating a new game, but this unintentionally leads to a the creation of a conscious life-form, which in turn stimulates the audience to question what the limits of existence really are.

TUFSの高橋哲さんへのインタビュー/An Interview with TUFS’ Akira Takahashi

また東京外国語大学からの留学生の高橋哲さんに、グアナフアトにおいての生活や印象についてインタビューをしました。/We also interviewed Akira Takahashi, an international student from TUFS, about life in Guanajuato and his impression of the city.

Q:何故、ラテンアメリカ地域に興味を持ったのか。 A:親の影響が強いのかなあと思っていて、以前から南米など少し長く旅行する機会があったこと、またメキシコに家族と来たことがあり、地球反対側は面白いと思ったから。 Q:この二か月の間でグアナフアトにどんな印象を持ったか。 A:一つあるのは暮らしいやすいかな。町はあまり大きくないからどこでも歩いて行けるし、夜も結構賑やかでそんなに治安が悪くない。暮らしやすい街。 Q: Why were you interested in the Latin American region? A: I think my parents had a lot to do with it. I had the opportunity to take long trips in South America, and I had also come to Mexico with my family and found it interesting to be on the opposite side of the Earth. Q: What kind of impression has Guanajuato left on you in the past two months? A: One is that it is comfortable to live in. The city itself is small enough that I can walk anywhere, and it is a lively town even at night so the streets are safe. It is a comfortable city to live in. Q:東京外国語大学でスペイン語を勉強している学生たちにグアナフアトを勧めるか。 A:しますね。というのはよく言われることで、スペイン語を南米とか中南米で勉強しようと思うと、やはり治安という面が必ずネックになっています。しかし、ここは本当に街が小さくてそんなに犯罪が多くなく、ある程度気を付けておけば普通に暮らせる。あと、日本の料理も一応スーパーとかレオンへ行けば材料があるので作れる。そんな面で暮らしやすいのでお勧めできるかなと思います。 Q: Would you recommend coming to Guanajuato to other TUFS students studying Spanish? A: Yes. When you think about studying Spanish in South America or the Middle Americas, safety always becomes an issue. However this city is very small and there aren’t isn’t that much crimes, and people can lead regular lives if they are careful enough. Also, you can make Japanese food because they have the ingredients in Supermarkets or at Leon. I think I can recommend Guanajuato in these respects. Q:今はどんな生活をしているか、そしてその生活の良いところや楽しいとことにつて教えてください。 A:平日は普通に授業があって放課後は宿題をする。そして早く終わったらスポーツに行くか、「吹き替え研究会」に来るか、あとは自分で料理をしているとか、結構自由度の高い生活をしているかな。 Q: What kind of life do you currently have here? Tell us the good points and the fun points. A: On weekdays I have class, and after class I do homework. When I’m finished early, I either go play sports, or go to the Dubbing Workshop, or cook by myself. I think I have a lot of freedom here. Q:メキシコに来て驚いたことがあるか。 A:車のスピードを緩めさせるための“段差” “Tope”(トペ)。信じられない程最悪。特にグアナフアトにいっぱいあるから“Tope” だけは本当にどうにかして欲しい切実に。 Q:意外に良い所はありますか。 A:結構人が親切です。聞いたことをすぐに教えてくれるし、分からないことがあったら説明してくれる。普通の町の何も関係ない人にも結構そのような人が多い。 Q: Has anything been surprising to you since you arrived in Mexico? A: I cannot believe the speed bumps (“Tope”) in the roads made to slow down cars. They’re absolutely horrible. There are a lot of them especially in Guanajuato so I really want something to be done about them. Q:この吹き替え研究会の印象を教えてください。 A:皆日本語が上手、思っていた以上に。少し勉強始めたのかなと思っていたのですが普通に発音も日本語を話せるレベルで、全然予想していなかったレベルでした。ある意味日本語を聞く機会はここにしかないので懐かしいというか、ああ日本語だと思いました。 Q: Please tell me what you thought of the Dubbing Workshop. A: Everyone is better at Japanese than I thought they would be. I thought they had just started studying, but their pronunciation is good enough to engage in actual Japanese conversation and I wasn’t expecting that at all. In a sense this is the only time in which I hear any Japanese, so it made me feel kind of nostalgic, like “Oh, it’s Japanese”.

加藤みどり先生の退職式/Retirement Ceremony of Professor Midori Kato

グアナフアト大学で1990年から日本語を教えていた、加藤みどり先生の退職式が行われました。1990年から日本語を学んでいた色々な人がお祝いに来ました。今のグアナフアト大学にある日本語学科の存在はこの先生のおかげです。グアナフアトシーティーにある日本人のコミュニティにもこの方はとても大切かも知れません。この先生は長い間日本人留学生も日本語学科で今まで日本語を勉強していたメキシコ人もお世話になりした。もちろん私も日本語学科の元学生として大変お世話になりました。 今までありがとうございました。/A retirement ceremony was held for Professor Midori Kato, who had been teaching Japanese at the University of Guanajuato since 1990. Many who had been studying Japanese since 1990 or later came to celebrate. The Japanese faculty at the University of Guanajuato only exists because of her. She may also be very important to the Japanese community at the city of Guanajuato. Japanese international students and Mexican students studying Japanese at the Japanese faculty all received her help. As a former student of the Japanese faculty, I am also indebted to her. Thank you very much for your service.

今月は、グアナフアト大学文学部の文化祭がありました。ここでは、日本の色々なイベントが行われ、風呂敷、日本のダンス団体“楽笑”によるダンスの発表や、留学中の日本人の方々が日本の歌を歌いました。GJOとして、この文化祭の中で二つのイベントを行いました。/This month, the Humanities Festival was held at the University of Guanajuato. At this festival, there were many Japanese events such as furoshiki, a dance performance by the Japanese dance group ‘Rakushou,’ and performances of Japanese songs by Japanese exchange students. The GJO held two events during this festival. その一つは、10月2日に私が明治大学に留学していたときに演出したお芝居を紹介し、日本の演劇について話ました。/One, on the 2nd of October, was an introduction to Japanese plays, focusing around an introduction to the play I acted in during my exchange at Meiji University.

Guanajuato1711_1.jpg もう一つは、日本とメキシコの違いについての座談会を開催し、留学の経験、日本の生活で困ったことや、生活費などについて他の二人のメキシコ人と日本人の三人と話しました。ここでは、日本への留学やメキシコと日本の印象につて話し合いました。/The other event was a round-table discussion on the differences between Japan and Mexico, with particular focus on things such as exchange experiences, hardships in Japan, and living expenses. The discussion was held between two Mexican students and three Japanese students. The five talked a lot about going on exchange to Japan, and the general impression they had of Mexico and Japan.

また、今月も8月に開始した “吹き替え研究会”の活動を続けました。TUFSの学生を、吹き替え研究会に招待したところ、メンバーに入ってくれました。なお、この活動をYoutubeチャネルに掲載しましたので紹介します。/Also this month, we continued to hold the ‘dubbing seminar’ that we started in August. I invited some TUFS students to the dubbing seminar, and they joined as members. In addition to this, we posted some of our activities on YouTube, so please check out the link below.

9月20日と21日に、グアナフアト大学の経営経済学校において国際アカデミックフェアが開催されました。このフェアには世界中の大学から参加があり、東京外国語大学のブースではグアナフアト大学の学生たちにTUFSへ留学するよう様々な情報を提供しました。/On the 20th and 21st of September, the International Academic Fair was held at the University of Guanajuato. Universities from around the world participated at this fair, and TUFS had its own booth which provided information to students about TUFS’ exchange programs. また、日本に興味がある沢山の学生が来て、日本での生活や留学するために必要なことについて情報提供しました。もしかしたら、その学生たちが今度東京外国語大学で留学するかもしれません。/Many students interested in Japan came and received vital information on exchange opportunities and Japanese lifestyle. Perhaps those students will come on exchange to TUFS someday. フェア開催期間中にTUFSを紹介するためのプレゼンテーションを行い、そこではTUFSの特徴を話しました。/At the fair I held a presentation, in which I introduced and talked about TUFS. Guanajuato171106_1 8月に開始した “吹き替え研究会”の活動を継続しています。/We are continuing the ‘dubbing seminar’ we opened in August. この吹き替え研究会では、日本語/スペイン語だけではなく吹き替えのやり方や演技も学んでいるため、いつも楽しく活動しています。/At the dubbing seminars, students learn not only Japanese and Spanish, but also acting and dubbing skills, so the seminars are always very enjoyable. 研究会を開始する前に日本の演劇で実際やっている発声練習をしています。最初は正しい呼吸を学んで、円になって一人がお腹に力を入れ、大きい声で発生練習をします。/Before the seminar begins, we do pronunciation practice like theatre professionals do. First the students learn to how breathe correctly, then they form a circle and practice speaking in big voices:

It was only a short visit, but I think they were able to experience lots of Mexican culture.

今回TUFSの学生たち三人がグアナフアトに一か月間スペイン語を勉強しにきました。せっかくここまで来てくれましたので、二つのお芝居を見に行きました。その一つはCervantes劇場、二つ目はJuarez劇場です。役者たちと一緒に写真を撮ることまでできました。とても楽しい体験でした。/This month, three TUFS students came to study Spanish at Guanjuato for one month. Since they came all the way here, we took them to see two plays. One was at the Cervantes Theater, the other at the Juarez Theater. The students were even able to take photos with the actors. It was a very enjoyable experience.

また、8月にGlobal Japan Officeとしてグアナフアト大学にて“吹き替え研究会”を開催いたしました。/Also, in August, the Global Japan Office opened a ‘Dubbing Seminar’ at the University of Guanjuato. 外国語を勉強するにあたりやっぱり授業だけでは学べないことがあります。一般的に授業ではアカデミック的の範囲は学べますが、外国語はこれだけではありません。例えば日本語の場合には建前があるから自由に話せるわけではありません。色々な言葉を学んでも使える機会が少ないかもしれませんがこの“吹き替え研究会”でその機会を作れるように活動をしています。ここでは日本語を上達させたいメキシコ人とスペイン語を上達したい日本人が一緒に、ビデオを選んで、皆で一緒に翻訳をして、キャストを選んで吹き替えすることになっております。日本人はスペイン語で吹き替えして、メキシコ人が日本語で吹き替えしますので、発音、イントネーションなど、授業でよく学べないことをやっております。日本語での発声練習や日本語で考えて話すためのゲームもやっています。/When learning foreign languages, there are some things that you cannot learn just from being in the classroom. In the classroom, generally you learn the academic scope of a language, but foreign languages are more than just this. For example, Japanese has tatemae, so one cannot always speak freely. So even if you learn many words, you may have very few chances to use them, which is why we started this ‘Dubbing Seminar.’ At this seminar, Mexican students that want to improve their Japanese, and Japanese students that want to improve their Spanish choose videos together, translate them, divide up the roles, and dub the videos with their own voices. The Japanese students dub in Spanish, and the Mexican students dub in Japanese, so they have the chance to practice their pronunciation, intonation, and other skills they cannot learn in class. We also play games that give students the chance to practice thinking and speaking in Japanese. これは授業ではなくサークルのように考えています。何故かというと日本のサークルに入ったことがないメキシコ人にその雰囲気と責任感を感じさせられるからです。また経験者の先輩達は新入生に教えることにもなっているので、先輩としての責任感も感じるかもしれません。/We are thinking of running this seminar like a club as opposed to a class. This is so that Mexican students who have never entered a Japanese-style club can experience the atmosphere and the sense of responsibility that comes with being in a club. Also, since we have the senpai of the club teaching the newcomers, they can feel the responsibility that comes with being a senpai.

今月からグアナフアト大学GJOコーディネーターの活動始めましたヤイル・イェブラです。/I am Yair Yebra, and from this month I will be acting as coordinator for the University of Guanajuato GJO.

これまでのグアナフアト大学GJO事務所は、社会人文学部言語学科内に設置されていましたが、グアナフアト大学国際部と連携して活動を行うため、国際部の事務室内に移設されました。/Until now, the GJO had been located in the Social Sciences and Humanities Division of the Language Department, but in offer to carry out activities in coordination with the International Division, it was relocated to the International Division office.

GJOコーディネーター活動を開始するにあたって、国際部の皆様に紹介されました。/As I will be beginning my activities as GJO coordinator, I was introduced to everyone at the international division.

グアナファト大学に留学しているTUFSの学生達とは顔を合わせたり直接話したりできませんでしたが、メールやフェイスブックで連絡を取って自己紹介しました。/I wasn’t able to speak face-to-face with Students form TUFS who are studying abroad at the University of Guanajuato, but I introduced myself through email and on Facebook.

TUFS以外からの日本人の留学生はグアナフアト大学社会人文学部言語学科でスペイン語を勉強しているので以前から私を知っていましたが、GJOコーディネーターとして自己紹介し“何かあったら相談してください”と伝えました。 この学生たちの半分ぐらいが友達として付き合っているので、今後はもっと簡単に相談をしてくれると思います。/The Japanese students from places other than TUFS have been studying Spanish at the Social Sciences and Humanities Division of the Language Department of the University of Guanajuato since before, so they knew me already, but I introduced myself as GJO coordinator and told them to get in touch if they needed anything.

I meet with around half of these students as friends, so I think they will be able to discuss things with me easily from now on.

このほか、秋学期からTUFSへ行く交換留学生たちと連絡を取ってGJOを紹介し、できる範囲で留学の手続きを手伝ったり日本の生活についての質問に答えたりしました。/Aside from this, I contacted the students who will be international exchange students at TUFS as of this autumn and introduced the GJO. As far as I could, I helped them with the procedures for studying abroad and answered their questions on life in Japan.

メキシコでは4月に二週間の休暇があります“セマナサンタとセマナデパスクア”、セマナサンタですべての大学と色々な企業が一週間ぐらい休み、セマナデパスクアでグアナファト大学や他の大学もプラス一週間休みますので、二週間は大学に入ることもできなくて、学生たちは旅行を楽しんだりしています。/In Mexico, there is a two-week holiday for ‘Semana Santa’ and ‘Semana de Pascua’ in April. During Semana Santa all of the universities and various companies close for about a week, and then in Semana Pascua the University of Guanajuato and other universities are closed for an additional week, so for two weeks you can’t enter the university and the students are doing things like having fun travelling.

3月3日(金)、13時半より、冬季短期研修に本学に来ていた辰巳航介君、長澤光記君、土岐千尋さん、久家東君はTUFSの紹介をしてもらった。前週の予行演習をもとに、より改良し、TUFSの学校生活、学習風景、部活動、文化祭の様子など、個人の写真を織り交ぜて紹介してくれた。/On Friday 3rd March, from 1:30pm the winter short term research students Tatsumi Kosuke, Nagasawa Mitsuki, Tokishi Chihiro, and Hisaie Higahsi gave us an introduction to TUFS. On the basis of the rehearsal last week, they made even more improvements to give an introduction on things such as student life at TUFS, the learning scene, club activities, and cultural festivals, while including their own photos.

発表を聞きに集まった学生たちは本学日本語学科の初級から上級レベルの学生約30人であった。1か月と言う短いメキシコ研修の中で、原稿を読むことなくスペイン語で大学の紹介を行う4人の日本人の学生はその後のメキシコ人学生からの質問にも真剣に一生懸命答えてくれていた。/Gathered to listen to the presentation were around 30 Japanese Language course students from elementary to advanced level. During their short, one month period of research in Mexico, the four Japanese students did their very best to answer the Mexican students’ questions in Spanish without a reading a script.

前回の予行演習で多く出された日本生活における経済面に関する質問に対応するために、今回の発表では身近な公共交通料金なども紹介してくれた。しかし、現在のペソ安を受け、日本で生活するには留学希望時期に向けて長期の金銭的準備が必要だと本学の学生は認識していた。それに伴い、日本留学のためには、いずれかの機関からの奨学金を受ける必要性を再認識したようで、発表の後、TUFS以外にもメキシコ国内でどのような機関から海外留学のための援助が受けられるという問い合わせが10件近くGJOに寄せられた。/In the previous rehearsal, in order to respond to the many questions on issues related to the financial aspect of life in Japan, they also outlined the prices of the public transport near them. However, in light of the recent fall of the peso, the students recognise that study abroad applicants need to financially prepare long-term for life in Japan. Accordingly, as though they had once again recognised the importance of receiving a scholarship from any of the organisations that offer them, after the presentation, close to 10 students came by the GJO to ask about, aside from TUFS, what kind of organisations in Mexico offer support for studying overseas.

メキシコ人学生からはTUFSの学生たちに「なぜ留学先をメキシコに選んだのか」、「メキシコのどんなところが好きか」などの質問が出された。 彼らの発表を聞いて、異なる専門分野を持つ学生たちは日本留学の第一歩となる語学習得のためにも、TUFSで勉強してみたいという興味が湧いたと話してくれた。 この発表をきっかけとして、国際商業を専攻する学生がTUFSへ交換留学の願書を提出した。是非、その学生には留学を実現してもらい、日本での体験をまた彼らの前で語ってもらいたい。/The Mexican students asked the TUFS students questions such as “why did you choose Mexico as your study abroad destination?” and “Which parts of Mexico do you like?”. While listening to the presentation, students of many different disciplines said that they overflowed with interest in studying at TUFS as a first step to their language study. Spurred on by this presentation, one student of international commerce submitted an application form for TUFS’s exchange programme. I very much hope for the realisation of this student’s study abroad, and that they will share their experience of Japan in front of everyone.

3月31日、グアナファト市在住で看護師の植草貴子さんを講師に、東洋医学の「気」とマッサージに関する講演をお願いした。集まった本学の学生は約15人であった。植草講師は日本と中国で針や灸、マッサージを学び、これまでボリビアやキルギスなどで、JICAの職員として活動してきた経歴を持つ。/ On 31st March, we received a lecture on ‘qi’ (気) and massage in Eastern medicine from Uekusa Takako, a registered nurse residing in Guanajuato. Around 15 students from this university attended. Nurse Takako has studied acupuncture, moxibustion and massage in Japan and China and has a history working in places including Bolivia and Kirgizstan as a member of JICA.

「元気、気合い、病気、気持ち」など、「気」が付く単語を紹介しながら、人体の気の流れを説明していった。体内に入って来るエネルギーは多すぎても少なすぎても、体調に異常をきたすこととなる。季節ごとの太陽エネルギーがどのくらいあるのかを各学生に予想させ、人間の身体が受けるエネルギーからのダメージや恩恵を予想していった。/While introducing terms that use the character ‘気’ such as ‘元気’ (healthy), ‘気合’ (motivation), ‘病気’ (illness), and ‘気持ち’ (feeling), she gave an explanation of the flow of qi in the body. If the energy that enters the body is too much or too little, it can cause disorders. She asked each student for their estimates on the amount of energy that comes from the sun in each season, and on the damage and benefits that the sun’s energy has on the body.

東洋医学はメキシコでも人々の興味が強く、学生たちも熱心に聞いていた。パワーストーンなども学生の世代に人気であるため、より良い気を自分に取り入れたいという思いが強いようであった。/Interest in Eastern medicine is strong among Mexican people, and the students listened enthusiastically. Things like ‘power stones’ are also popular with the students’ generation, so the desire to take in good qi also seemed to be strong.

2月はTUFSからの短期留学生受け入れを行った。オフィスを訪れた4名の短期留学生はメキシコ人学生たちとの交流にも積極的であったため、本学日本語コースの会話クラスのボランティアに参加してもらった。日本語コース3セメスターのグループの会話クラスでは現在の日本の大学生同士で使う「友達言葉」を教えてもらった。同時に、メキシコ人学生からはスペイン語のModismo(現代の若者言葉)を教えられていた。 彼ら4人は3月初旬の帰国まで、週2、3回、日本語会話クラスに参加することになっている。

In February, we received the short-term study abroad students from TUFS. The four short-term study abroad students who visited the office were active in associating with the Mexican students, so I had them participate as volunteers in the conversation classes of the Japanese course at this university. In the group conversation class in the Japanese course’s third semester, I had them teach the contemporary ‘casual speech’ used by Japanese university students. At the same time, We were taught Spanish ‘modismos’ (modern words used by young people) by the Mexican students. Before they return to Japan in the first third of March, the study abroad students will be participating in the Japanese conversation classes two or three times a week.


At the GJO, I asked the same four students to give an introduction to TUFS, which they carried out on 28th February in the Japanese course’s intermediate level class. In front of the 20 Mexican students who participated, they gave an introduction to the university and what they were studying while showing photos of things like the scenery of the four seasons on campus and university festivals. Aside from that, they introduced some famous tourism spots in Tokyo such as Asakusa, Tokyo station, Tokyo government office, and Tokyo Skytree.


There were lots of questions from the students who were listening to the introductions, such as What kinds of subjects you can study at TUFS, whether there are student dormitories for foreign students, and which countries most of the foreign students come from.


I plan to have the same four students do another presentation introducing TUFS on 3rd March, so we took suggestions on points to improve from the Mexican students. Next time, students from all levels in the Japanese course will be able to attend. The Mexican students gave advice saying they would like to see things like more photos showing the four students’ everyday student life and maps showing the relative location of TUFS, as well as to know specifically what faculties and courses there are at TUFS, about famous places in the city, and about travel expenses.


The university is currently taking applications for the long-term foreign exchange programme with TUFS. At the GJO, along with widely advertising the next school introduction and calling for lots of students to join, I want to boost the exchange programme applications.

From 10th-13th October, acceptance for the ‘2016 Hiroshima (Mexico-Japan Exchange Program for the Strategic Global Partnership) Guanajuato cultural exchange project’ was held. The aim of this project is ‘Focusing on current trainees in Mexico, to carry out observation and cultural exchange in Guanajuato, deepening the understanding of Guanajuato and promoting cultural exchange in the younger generation through the practical use of municipality quotas for recommendations (aimed at Hiroshima prefecture residents) for the Mexico-Japan Exchange Program for the Strategic Global Partnership carried out by the Mexican and Japanese governments’, and was a request for the Global Japan Office.


Part of the agenda was a field trip to Mazda’s Mexico factory. Of the trainees, 10 University of Guanajuato students as well as Mexican university students who had experience of visiting Hiroshima took part. After being greeted by company president Mizutani and vice company president Okano, we received an explanation of the establishment of local subsidiaries from manager Suzuki. After riding the factory’s bus, we observed the painting and assembly processes. During the field trip, we listened to a simultaneous interpretation through earphones. As well as that of the workers of the manufacturing process, we were able to get a look up close of the interpreter’s job. After the trip had ended, we returned to the conference room, where the president and vice president took the students’ questions. There was a lively flood of questions, with students of the University of Guanajuato students asking numerous things such as what kind of human resources from Mexico are regarded as necessary to Japanese companies. Meanwhile, the university students with experience of visiting Hiroshima asked questions such as why hydrogen gas fuel is being exploited in Mazda’s Hiroshima factory but not in its Mexico factory.

We also had the chance to visit the giant ‘mojiganga’ puppet studio run by artist and Guanajuato resident Mika Ishimatsu, and her ceramicist husband, Felipe. The two have been making mojiganga ever since they married 10 years ago after meeting at a mojiganga workshop. During the colonial period, in order to make known the majesty of the King of Spain to the citizens, a huge puppet was brought to the new continent, where it was used in a dance. However, with the cost cuts of recent years, along with the degradation in quality of the puppets, so too has the custom’s popularity declined. Mika and Felipe put great time and effort into creating the puppets, and sculptor Felipe pays special attention to the puppets’ facial expressions. On the day, they showed us a puppet of Mexico’s famous female artist Frida Kahlo out on the terrace, and allowed members of our trip the experience of puppeteering and dancing with it themselves. The puppets, which weigh between 12-15 kilos, are mounted upon the puppeteer’s shoulders, and balancing them takes some getting used to. Seeing a traditional art form which has been becoming rarer in recent years was a very valuable experience.


On 19th October, there was Japanese photography exhibition which focused on Shirakawa-gō. The photographer was Professor Octavio Hernandez, formerly of the University of Guanajuato’s architecture department. The exhibit showed Japan’s architecture from an architect’s point of view.

In October, Guanajuato City is lively with the annual international music festival Cervantino. This year’s guest country was Spain, and the domestic guest region was Torreon.

今月6日から8日まで本学グアナファトキャンパス(DUCEA)にて留学フェア “Foro y Expo de Colaboración Académica Internacional” が開催された。 6日は諸事情により報告者は参加することができなかったが、7日は午前中会場を訪れることができた。会場にはTUFSのブースも用意されていたが、事前に不参加を決めていたので机が置いてあるだけであった。しかし、会場で運営の国際課担当者より8日だけでもTUFSのブースを開けて欲しいという依頼があったため、急遽翌日ブースを開けることを決めた。7日の夕食会では日本、アメリカ、カナダ、ドイツの各大学から留学フェアに参加した関係者と交流を深め、GJOの役割を日本から参加した複数の大学の関係者に説明することができた。 8日のTUFSのブースには2月の訪学の際に頂いた資料を置き、長期留学、春期冬期の短期プログラムについて会場を訪れた学生に説明を行った。この日だけで25名程の問い合わせがあった。問い合わせの内容としては、長短留学プログラムに参加する際の経済支援がどのくらいあるかというものが多かったが、その他にはTUFSへ留学した場合、自分が現在専攻している分野が勉強できるのかといった質問も多数あった。

From the 6th to the 8th of this month, the study abroad fair “Foro y Expo de Colaboración Académica Internacional” was held on the University of Guanajuato campus. I couldn’t attend on the 6th for various reasons, but I was able to visit on the afternoon of the 7th. There was a TUFS booth prepared on site, but since I had determined beforehand that I would be absent it was just a desk. Nevertheless, the international division management asked me if I could operate the booth even if it was just on the 8th, and so I decided to hurriedly prepare to open it the next day. At the dinner held on the evening of the 7th, I was able to get to know the people from all the large universities in Japan, the US, Canada and Germany who were participating in the fair, and I was able to explain the role of the Global Japan Office to many participants from Japan. On the 8th, at the TUFS booth I laid out the materials I had received on my visit to the university in February, and explained long-term study abroad as well as spring and winter term short-term study abroad programmes to students who came by. In just one day, I answered the questions of around 25 people. Many wanted to know about how much financial support was available for long-term study abroad programmes, but aside from that many asked about whether they could continue studying their current subjects at TUFS.

その他の活動として、TUFSから長期留学中の学生が8月から私立の語学学校Escuela Yinzaiにて日本語中級レベルのキッズクラスの指導を始めた。同校にて長期留学中の学生もう1名も日本語初級レベルのキッズクラスの指導を今月より開始した。グアナファト市においては小中学生が受講できる日本語クラスが稀少であることと、近年の日系企業の進出に伴う日本語への関心が増していることから若年期から日本語を習わせたいという親が増えているように感じる。初級クラスも受講生が増加傾向にあり、同市の日本語熱の高まりを感じさせる。

With regard to other activities, students from TUFS in the middle of their long-term study abroad have begun giving teaching support at intermediate level Japanese kids’ classes at the private language school Escuela Yinazi. Another long-term study abroad student has begun coaching at beginner’s level Japanese kids’ classes at the same school, starting this month. Because of the scarcity in opportunities for primary school pupils to attend Japanese classes in Guanajuato City, as well as the increased interest in Japanese that has followed the advancement of Japanese companies abroad, it seems that more and more parents want their children to learn Japanese from a young age. There is a rising trend in pupils attending intermediate level classes, and one can feel the enthusiasm for Japanese in the city.

今月15日から本学秋セメスターが始まった。前週から6名TUFS夏季1か月短期留学生のセミナーも始まった。本学日本語学科では毎年、有志の日本人留学生に会話のクラスを手伝ってもらっている。授業内で補いきれない会話練習や語彙の補充を彼らに任せている。TUFSからは長期留学生3名、夏季短期留学生6名が参加した。 22日月曜日からは本格的に会話クラスが始まり、それぞれが担当するグループの指導にあたった。メキシコ人学生とお互いの自己紹介を交えながら、交流を深めている様子だった。 日本人ボランティアによる会話クラスは両国の学生にとって、外国人の友人をつくる絶好の機会である。過去の事例を見ても、こうした場で半年間交流を持った学生たちは日本へ帰国した後も互いの友情を継続し、日本人学生にとってはグアナファトへのリピーターとなるモチベーション、メキシコ人学生にとっては日本に長期留学するためのモチベーションとなっている。 TUFSの短期留学生は2週間という短い期間ではあったが積極的に会話のクラスに参加してくれた。 短期留学に参加した日本語教育専攻の大学院生は実際に3セメスターの日本語クラスに入りメキシコ人学生に漢字を教えた。

From the 15th of this month, the university’s autumn centre has begun. From last week, a seminar of 6 summer season short-term international students from TUFS also began. Every year, the university’s Japanese department receives help from Japanese international student volunteers with its conversation classes. They are put in charge of supplementing practice of conversation, vocabulary and so on that cannot be covered within lessons. From TUFS, 3 long-term study abroad students and 6 summer season short-term study abroad students took part.

From Monday the 22nd, the conversation classes began in earnest, and each volunteer acted as a guide for their group. During the class, the Mexican students got to know each other while exchanging self-introductions.

These conversation classes run by Japanese student volunteers are, for students of both countries, an ideal chance to make friends from abroad. Looking at past examples, students involved in these half-year exchanges have continued friendships even after returning to Japan. For the Japanese students, it becomes a motivation to one day return to Guanajuato, while for the Mexican students, it becomes a motivation to study in Japan long-term.

The TUFS foreign students were only here for the short period of two weeks, but during that time they kindly actively participated in the conversation classes. Graduate students Japanese education who took part in the short-term study abroad also taught kanji to the Mexican students in the Japanese classes in Centre 3.

本月11日武藤副外務大臣の本学訪問があり、日本人留学生たちとの交流会を持たれた。/On the 11th of this month we had the visit from Mr. Yoji Muto, the State Minister and an exchange event was held with the Japanese students studying abroad here at University of Guanajuato. TUFSからも長期留学生が参加した。副外務大臣は日本人留学生たちに「メキシコで何を学んでいるか」、「どうしてメキシコに来たのか」などを質問され、学生たちは自己紹介とともにこれらの質問に答えた。/Long term study abroad students from TUFS also participated. The Minister asked the Japanese students “What are you studying here in Mexico?”, “Why did you choose to come to Mexico?” and the Japanese students answered the questions after introducing themselves. 同行された在グアナファト州領事館鈴木領事が外大出身だったため、TUFSの学生は鈴木領事からも激励を受けた。/Accompanying the Minister was Mr. Suzuki, the Consul General residing in Guanajuato who by coincidence graduated from TUFS. 今月、本年度「ショートステイ サマープログラム」に参加できなかった学生から本プログラムに関する問い合わせが複数あり、28日に、一堂に会して質問を受け付けた。/This month of this academic year, we had multiple enquiries from students who were unable to participate in the “Short Stay Summer Program” regarding the program and on the 28th brought all the questions together and answered them. 自己負担の経済面(食費・交通費)、メキシコ国内で奨学金を獲得するために必要な条件、日本までの航空券の買い方等、様々な質問が寄せられた。/Various questions were received such as fees which must be paid by the participants (food/travel expenses), the necessary requirements for acquiring a scholarship in Mexico, how to purchase flight tickets to Japan and other such questions.

本月上半期はTUFS「ショートステイ サマープログラム2016」の公示を行った。その対象は主にグアナフアト大学人文学部日本語学科に在籍する学生であった。たくさんの学生が興味を示していたが、申請閉め切り日まで半月ほどしかなかったため、今回は見合わせ、来年再検討したいという声が多く聞かれた。最終的に今夏のプログラムにはFrancisco Vargas Gascaという自然科学学部の学生が参加できることになった。/In the first half of this month, the TUFS “Short Stay Summer Program 2016” was publicly announced. The target for the course was mainly students who belonged to the Japanese language major within the faculty of Humanities at the University of Guanajuato. There was a lot of interest shown from the students however, due to the fact there was only half a month until the application deadline, many thought it would have been best to postpone this year and try again next year. In the end, the program this summer was held and the student Francisco Vargas Gasca, from the Natural Sciences Department was able to participate in this program. 本月4週目には琉球大学の先生方がグアナフアト市を訪問された。大学間協定を結ぶかどうかの下調べを目的とされており、この週は本学が長期休暇中だったため、国際部ではなく金澤が大学周辺をご案内し、対日本大学間協定の現状や留学生の生活の様子などをお伝えした。/In the 4th week of this month teaching staff from the University of the Ryukyus visited Guanajuato city. The purpose of the visit was to determine whether or not an agreement would be concluded between both universities. However during the visiting period the University of Guanajuato was in the middle of a long vacation and so instead of the International Department, the GJO coordinator, Ms. Kanazawa gave a tour of the university and explained the current situation of the agreement between the University of Guanajuato and TUFS as well as describing the lifestyle of the students studying abroad here. 本学日本語学科では授業外で日本人留学生に会話クラスの補助をお願いしている。外大からは橋本陽香さんが月曜日の初級クラスの補助をしてくれた。日本語教育に興味を示してくれる学生が増えることを期待する。本学科では日本企業の進出により日本語学習を始める学生が毎年増えており、こうした日本人留学生のお手伝いは今後一層重要不可欠なものになって来ると思う。/At the Japanese Language Department here at the University of Guanajuato we are asking for assistance from the Japanese students who are studying abroad here to help with the conversational classes. Ms. Haruka Hashimoto, a student from TUFS is assisting us with the beginner class which is held on Mondays. We are anticipating a rise in the number of students who show an interest towards Japanese language education. At the Japanese Language Department due to the advancement of Japanese companies, the numbers of students who start to learn Japanese are rising every year and so I believe assistance from Japanese students studying abroad such as Ms. Hashimoto will become even more important in the future.
